In July 2017 two Lowestoft, aged 18 will be joining a contingent of scouters from Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Wiltshire and Newcastle Under Lyme will be travelling to South Africa for a twenty five day expedition. Whilst in South Africa, the Scouts will be undertaking projects specifically designed to improve the quality of life for young people in the communities we will be based. An example of the s
ome of the projects which the scouts will undertake are: Improving a local dwelling to make it useable by the elderly; Sustainable gardening; Learning about business development in a third world setting; Constructing a two room dwelling for a community elder and entertaining orphans. The personal cost of the expedition will be met by each participant, both Scout and Leader alike. We are now embarking upon a fundraising campaign designed primarily to raise the expedtion cost but also to raise money for the
projects and also an awareness of Scouting locally, by showcasing what our Scouts are doing to help those in less fortunate communities abroad. The Purpose of Scouting is to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. This expedition will provide the participating Explorer and Network Scouts with an excellent opportunity to learn first-hand how those in less fortunate parts of the world live and manage with much less; for personal development; the possibility of a life changing experience and how they can make a difference to others with the work they complete whilst in South Africa.
