No this isn't a ghost hunting camera (or maybe it is!) but it does help me to spot potential blockages before a flue liner is dropped. Here you can see a lump of mortar from when the chimney was built (delightfully called 'snots') which will need to be knocked out before the liner is dropped. You can make out the circle of daylight from the chimney pot to help the slightly upside down orientation πŸ˜„.

This was taken a few weeks back now but the birds are definitely in full Spring mode now and busy with their nests. Remember, if you come across a nest it mustn't be disturbed until Autumn when the breeding season is over.

This Spring has started in earnest for me too and I'm looking forward to catching up with my regular customers on their news. It's wonderful the relationships you can build, even only seeing people for an hour a year, over the course of a decade ☺️

Our most recent supplier newsletter included a message about wood fuel testing over the festive period. πŸͺ΅πŸ”₯

The team will aim to complete the testing of any samples received before Wednesday 18 December before closing for the festive period. Any samples received after 5 pm on 18 December may not be processed until the lab reopens at 8.30 am, 2 January 2025. πŸŽ„β„

Until then the team are available and you can find advice on sending a wood sample for testing linked below. πŸ‘‡πŸ”—

Haven't used your fireplace this year so think it doesn't need a sweep - this chimney was blocked with simple spider webs, enough to block the escape of smoke and cause carbon monoxide poisoning. Get your flue swept every year for peace of mind.

Stay safe around your stove. Fire and smoke can be dangerous but there are other risks to be mindful of this burning season πŸ”₯

Hot and cooling ashes can be a fire and carbon monoxide hazard.

To ensure safe disposal of stove ash, allow adequate time for cooling after a fire. Also, keep the stove door closed until the ash is cool. Remember to have the correct equipment on hand, like safety gloves. 🧀πŸ”₯

Such great advice. Be aware of cobwebs blocking flues and the reason to get your chimney sweep in, even if you haven't used the flue.

With the leaves falling and the colder mornings, it's essential to be aware of a 'cold plug' that can form in your flue. πŸ‚β„οΈ

This can often be an unexpected issue during this weather and you'll find details on how to prevent this happening on the HETAS Advice Hub. πŸ‘‡πŸ”—
