Flat roof replacement completed

Existing felt roof had reached the end of its service life, with peeling layers and multiple failure points.

We stripped back defective areas and installed a new torch-on felt system, including all penetrations and upstands, leaving a clean, watertight finish.

Another roof ready to handle the Scottish weather.

As we wrap up for the Christmas break, we’d like to say a huge thank you to all of our clients, partners, suppliers, and everyone who has supported A&B Building Solutions throughout a very busy year.

From small repairs to larger restoration projects, 2025 has been a year of hard work, progress, and growth. We couldn’t have done it without the trust placed in us.

We’re now taking a short break to recharge and will be back in the New Year ready to hit the ground running.

🧱 Full Exterior Restoration & Masonry Repair – Angus

Another property fully restored by the A&B Building Solutions team.

This project included:

✅ Biocidal wash, power clean, and detailed re-casting of defective areas
✅ Full render panel repairs and a two-coat Sandtex masonry coating system for lasting protection
✅ Full clean down and finish for a fresh, uniform appearance
✅ Garage column rebuild,carefully stripped, cleaned, and rebuilt back to original detail using matching stone

A full transformation that not only improves appearance but extends the life of the property for years to come.

🏗️ Another restoration project completed by A&B Building Solutions 🧱

Our team recently carried out full gable end restoration, crack stitching, and lime repointing works to this traditional stone gable.

The transformation speaks for itself.
Here’s the order of photos from finished → during → start so you can see the full journey of the restoration.

The wall was originally overgrown with ivy and had several open joints and structural cracks running through the masonry.
We carefully removed vegetation, cleaned the stonework, and installed stainless steel crack stitching bars to stabilise the cracked areas.
We also tied in the chimney using wall ties to ensure long-term structural integrity before carrying out a full lime-based repointing to match the existing stone.

✅ Vegetation & failed mortar removal

✅ Chimney tied back and stabilised
✅ Full lime repointing and stone cleaning
✅ Scaffold access and full site protection

The end result a structurally sound, fully restored elevation that retains the character of the original stonework.

✨ Completed Project – Aldi, Carluke ✨

Our team at A&B Building Solutions have successfully refurbished the disabled access ramp at Aldi, Carluke.

The works included:
🔨 Concrete remedial repairs using Sika Monotop 630 Rapid
🎨 Application of a 3-coat MMA resin system (Primer, FlexCoat, and final FlexCoat incorporating a full anti-slip aggregate)
🧹 Site-wide clean and handover ready for public use

This system provides a durable, slip-resistant, and long-lasting finish, ensuring safe access for all customers.

A great example of careful preparation, teamwork, and quality workmanship 👷‍♂️👷‍♀️.

✨ A closer look at our recently completed project in Perth – The Coach House.

After sharing the main before and after shots, I thought it would be good to highlight some of the details up close. From restoring the brickwork and timber features to carefully finishing the windows and signage, this project was all about respecting the heritage of the building while giving it a fresh, lasting finish.

We’re proud of how this one turned out, a great example of how traditional craftsmanship and modern restoration techniques can come together to revive historic buildings.

🏛 Project Completion – Perth 🏛

We are proud to announce the completion of our heritage restoration project in Perth. This historic building has been brought back to life through a combination of skilled craftsmanship, attention to detail, and respect for its original character.

Scope of Works:
✅ Full repointing with Mason’s Mortar lime mortar
✅ Roof repairs and new cast iron gutters & downpipes
✅ Installation of a brand new weather vane
✅ Four bespoke curved-head casement sash windows
✅ New signage installed
✅ Woodwork repairs & repainting
✅ Chimney rebuild and waterproofing
✅ Repair/replacement of sills, lintels, and mullions where required
✅ Decorative gable and façade panelling repaired & repainted
✅ Biocidal wash (x2) & intensive power wash to clean masonry and remove foliage
✅ Removal of redundant cables

🔨 Project Update – Repointing Completed ✅

We’ve just completed the repointing phase on one of our ongoing restoration projects. Here’s a quick glimpse at the transformation from worn mortar joints to sharp, clean lines that will protect and preserve this building for years to come.

🧱 Repointing Prep Underway — Mortar Beds Cut Out 🔧

We’ve just completed the first essential stage of our project: cutting out all the existing mortar beds from the brickwork. This is a critical step in heritage building restoration, allowing us to safely and cleanly prepare the joints for traditional lime repointing.

Every joint has been carefully raked out to the correct depth using a combination of mechanical tools and hand tools to preserve the surrounding brickwork and maintain the historic integrity of the building.

📍Precision at this stage ensures the longevity of the final finish and avoids damage to these stunning period bricks.
