💥Bedroom, Hallway & Bathroom Transformation💥
There’s a saying I truly believe in when it comes to my work…
“There’s no such word as can’t.”
This project certainly put that to the test, but with patience, preparation, and determination, the end result has completely transformed the space.
When I first arrived, it was clear that previous decorating had been carried out without the correct preparation over the years. In some areas the plaster was crumbling and flaking, one wall even broke apart due to poor plasterwork, and there were up to seven layers of wallpaper that had to be removed before any decorating could begin.
📌Bedroom
The bedroom required a great deal of preparation. The walls were a patchwork of plasterboard that had never been taped or scrimmed, which had caused cracking and movement in many areas. The majority of the walls therefore had to be scrimmed and stabilised before decorating could take place.
The skirting boards had unfortunately been fixed over wallpaper using a few dots of adhesive, with the gaps then filled with silicone rather than proper filler, which meant additional work was required to correct this and create a clean, professional finish.
To add to the challenge, the walls had previously had gloss paint applied directly onto them, so these had to be heavily sanded using P40 before applying Gardz to seal and stabilise the surface.
There were also areas of mould around the bedroom window, on the ceiling and on the walls, all of which were treated properly before decorating.
The radiator pipes were thick with layers of gloss paint, drips and runs, so these were sanded back and primed with Coverstain before repainting. Woodwork throughout the room was filled, sanded and primed properly before finishing coats were applied.
📌Hallway
The hallway had its own set of challenges. The radiator had many layers of paint and gloss, so it was sanded back and rectified before repainting.
There is a large amount of wood cladding and five doors with architraves and frames, all of which were thoroughly sanded using P80 and P180. Cracks in the cladding seams were dug out and re-caulked where needed to achieve a neat finish.
Some sections of the cladding were not properly fixed to the wall, and there were many drips and runs from previous decorating, so these areas had to be corrected before sanding and painting.
Pendant lights and sockets also had old paint splashes on them, which were carefully cleaned to improve the final finish.
📌Bathroom
The bathroom ceiling had flaky paint and mould, which clearly showed that it had never previously been mist coated. After sanding and filling the surface, a proper mist coat was applied before repainting to ensure the new paint adhered correctly and lasted.
📌Wallpaper Removal
As with any wallpaper removal, there is always the risk of uncovering hidden issues beneath the surface. Wallpaper can often hide cracks, poor plasterwork, patch repairs, damp, or other imperfections that have been covered up over time.
Until the wallpaper is removed, it’s impossible to fully see the true condition of the walls. Because of this, it’s always important to bear in mind that additional preparation or repairs may be required once the paper is stripped back in order to achieve a proper long-lasting finish.
📌Colour Choice
The clients chose the beautiful Wedgewood Blue for both the hallway and bedroom, which has completely transformed the spaces into something calm, fresh and elegant.
Gardz primer/sealer was used throughout the rooms to stabilise surfaces and provide extra protection before finishing coats were applied.
This job was certainly a challenge, but one that was overcome through proper preparation and attention to detail.
The home is now fresh, bright and properly finished, and most importantly the clients are very pleased with the outcome.
