“Why do I need my boiler serviced”?
A boiler service isn’t always a legal requirement for homeowners, but it is highly recommended for several reasons:
“Safety”
A service checks that the boiler is burning fuel correctly and safely. Faults can lead to dangerous issues such as carbon monoxide production, gas leaks, or overheating components.
“Reliability”
Many boiler breakdowns are caused by wear, dirt buildup, or small faults that develop over time. A service will identify these issues before they leave you without heating or hot water.
“Efficiency”
A well-maintained boiler generally operates more efficiently. Cleaning and checking key components can help reduce fuel consumption and heating costs.
“Manufacturer Warranty”
Most boiler manufacturers require annual servicing to keep the warranty valid. Missing services may allow the manufacturer to reject warranty claims.
“Longer Lifespan”
Regular maintenance helps reduce strain on components and can extend the life of your boiler, potentially delaying the need for an expensive replacement.
“Insurance and Landlord Requirements”
If you’re a landlord in the UK, annual gas safety checks are a legal requirement. Many insurers also expect appliances to be maintained according to manufacturer recommendations.
“What Happens During my Service?”
A qualified Gas safe registered engineer will typically:
* Inspect the boiler and flue.
* Check gas pressures and combustion performance.
* Test safety devices and controls.
* Look for leaks, corrosion, and wear.
* Clean components if required.
* Check the condensate system (for condensing boilers).
* Record the service in the benchmark logbook or service record.
Always use a gas safe registered engineer!!!
