Two separate jobs completed in one day.
First being a Birch heavily laden with Witches Broom (Taphrina), we removed 100% of what was visible of this fungus to try to eliminate it and stop further spreading to neighbouring trees. The Birch was also lightly reduced and shaped.
Second job was a Cherry that had been historically pollarded. The customer wanted more light and to take it away from over the house/gutters. She thought the only option was to re-pollard. This would have gained max light temporarily but looked unappealing and it would have grown back with vengeance. Sometimes a pollard may be the best option, but in this case I suggested a fairly heavy reduction and internal canopy thin. The tree canopy is still there looking natural and when the leaves come in there will be a huge difference. Much more direct light with where the canopy used to reach and now dappled light from the canopy thin.
Along with the cherry, we also removed an Ash tree that was affecting an old stone boundary wall and had signs of Ash Dieback.
