One week on from our Lunch and Learn event, A Net Zero Pathfinder – Behind the Design, at Fife College’s Dunfermline City Campus.

It was great to visit our Fife College Campus with colleagues and invited guests to talk through the project’s ambitions for low‑carbon delivery, adaptable learning environments and the Scottish Government’s Net Zero Public Sector Buildings Standard. Designed with learners at its centre, the campus brings together high‑quality teaching spaces, specialist facilities and shared learning environments that support how people study, teach and use the building every day.

Seeing the college in full use - and the pride and energy of the staff - gave a real sense of the life of the building and what it means to the people who work and learn there.

The project is a pathfinder for the Scottish Government’s Net Zero Public Sector Buildings Standard, and the first major development to adopt it. It is also the first pathfinder project to receive third‑party verification, demonstrating what can be achieved through early collaboration and a clear focus on whole‑life carbon.

With thanks to Fife College for letting us host and to the Scottish Futures Trust for contributing so thoughtfully to the discussion.

As we prepare for MIPIM 2026, we’re pleased to share more about our involvement as part of the RIAS delegation.

At Reiach and Hall Architects, our work is rooted in the belief that architecture should be thoughtful, quiet, and enduring. We strive to create buildings that feel inevitable - places shaped by context, purpose, and a deep understanding of how people live, learn, work and gather. These values guide our projects across healthcare, education, civic and cultural settings, and continue to shape our contribution to Scotland’s built environment.

MIPIM offers a moment to reflect on the wider role of Scottish architecture and the collective strength of our design community. We look forward to joining RIAS and fellow delegates in Cannes to share ideas around sustainable development, regeneration, and the future of meaningful, well-made places.
