Yesterday we held an event to celebrate 10 years of Magdalene Community Garden.

It was a splendid day of sunshine, food, music and community cheer. A perfect day to enjoy and reflect over the decade by welcoming back some of our previous members.

Thank you to all who attended and helped to make the day a wonderful success.

Special thanks to our committee members for arranging and our young members on their very busy and successful bake stall.

A throwback of Magdalene Community Garden from it's creation in 2015.

These young preschoolers and unborn baby have grown like weeds. Although we don't like actual weeds in MCG.

MCG wouldn't be as successful as it is without the love and dedication of the late founder David, the strong committee members, current and past garden members and those who've provided funding.

We would really love seeing any old photos that you may have from over the decade.

Please feel free to message us or post in the comments photos, memories and benefits of MCG.

That's another successful year wrapped up at our Community Garden.

Thank you to all our members and those who have helped support our Community Garden in many ways this year.

We appreciate and recognise all members and their efforts but 2 in particular are:-
Dave Goddard & Mark Slater who won the Edible Estates award for their commitment to the continued upkeep of the garden. Also for feeding the members at our social events come rain or shine.

For the 2nd year running Mark Slater winning the David Cropley award. Mark's time, hard work and dedication is very much appreciated and helps to shape the garden to what is was and is today.

Special thanks to a magical visitor last weekend who brought presents for all our young members.

If you are not a member and interested in taking on a bed next year - please send us a message for more information.

Best wishes to all.

Our Magdalene Community Garden will never be the same without it's creator and legend, David Cropley.

As a legacy to David, his loved ones and his friends, we carried on as best we could and had not a perfect year but a very successful year.

We think David would be proud, very proud of the fruit, veg and flowers grown by previous members and our new members.

Growing is not just about the community garden, it's about community, belonging, connection, giving back and enjoying our beautiful and tranquil garden.

Today, we had our last members event for the year. Lots of burgers, reflection, memories, celebrations and community cheer.

We had a little awards ceremony and special recognition given to some members but every member and their contribution appreciated.

This year a new award was created - The David Cropley Award.

Our winners were:

Mark - The David Cropley Award
Dave - services to cooking
Kev - best crop of carrots
Sharon - best newcomer
Cat & Alan - rudest looking veg
Lorraine - beautiful flowers
Owen - helping with the bbq
Toby - helping make pizzas
Maja & family - biggest courgette
Rebecca- tallest sunflower

Following on from our previous very sad post, which we thank you for all your lovely comments. We hope they bring Davie's loved ones a little comfort at this incredibly heartbreaking time.

Funeral information will be posted in the comments.

It is with the greatest sadness that we share the news that Davie Cropley, the man behind and at the heart of Magdalene Community Garden sadly passed away on the 8th December.
Our thoughts and love are with his family now and always.🤍

Yesterday we held our last members event of 2021. Another tidy up of the garden followed by a Halloween themed party for our young members. What a great event and year growing lots of lovely tasty fruit/veg and spending time with friends old and new.
Hoping in 2022 we can have a very long awaited public event and open up our beautiful and tranquil community garden to the public.
