Picture the scene...

The date is 23rd June 1986.

- The number one song was The Edge of Heaven by Wham!
- The M25 was nearing completion
- Thatcher, Gorbachev and Reagan were among the world's most influential leaders
- Top Gun was dominating the global box office

And in Ellesmere, a young ‘Maverick’ Jon Griffiths started work for TG Builders Merchants, then known as Ellesmere Ag.

Fast forward to today, and we're celebrating the incredible milestone of Jon Griffiths' 40th anniversary!

Over those four decades, Jon's journey has taken him from Ellesmere to Nantwich, then Oswestry, and finally back to Ellesmere again, covering almost as many miles as the newly completed M25! Along the way he's witnessed huge changes in the business, while remaining a valued and dedicated member of the team throughout. And while Top Gun may have been the big hit of 1986, around TG we've had our own Top Gun looking after the branches, and now transport, for the last 40 years.

Thank you, Jon, for 40 years of dedication, hard work and commitment. An incredible achievement and one we're proud to celebrate.

• Oswestry: Access is via the Highwayman end of Maesbury Road only.
