Last year I was asked by to design and create a new garden planting scheme for his Georgian Restoration House.
“I would like a garden full of colour, insects, and birds and one that in a few years will look as though it’s only just under control”

Tulips are loving this warmer weather, giving a vivid splash of colour. Exciting as they are, I was always disappointed that they didn’t flower the following year.
So I looked for tulips varieties that should flower for many years. The viridiflora group like Spring Green and Greenland have flowered week every year. I planted Tulip Purissima for a client six years ago and they are still going well.

Once again Marrakech raises my spirits. I love wandering around The Old Medena part of the city, soaking up the colours and atmosphere.

I was last here six months before the September 8th 2023 earthquake that damaged so much of the city, but on this visit I wanted to explore the gardens of Marrakech. The light, colours, plants and textures are so different to those I use in the UK, but it still gave me inspiration.

Another week and another great project. Clearing an unused garden and working to create a cutting garden and space for relaxing.
Having started to clear the hidden logs, I feel this is going to take a while……..

I just love this time of the year. I tend to leave tidying up the borders for a while. Windfall apples are great for the birds, dead stalks protect against frost, and my beloved worms pull down dead leaves into the soil!
Happy New Year!!!

I was asked to redesign a back garden of a new build house. The request was to make it more interesting by breaking up the space and to give more privacy.
A couple of weeks later the structure is complete ready for planting.
The main challenge was the clay under the recently laid turf and the slope from the back door. Extending the patio needed a low supporting wall, but made the space more balanced.
I can’t wait for the planting with plenty of grey/blue foliage and colour

Wood is a material that brings texture and warmth to a garden. Each design project brings its own unique range of challenges, and wooden structures such as benches, pergolas, raised beds, decking and compost bins are often a great solution.

It has been so wonderful working on a new build garden in Frome. A semi shaded plot, laid to grass and patio, with not nice views of the adjacent houses.
Now there is: a pond for wildlife; trees and shrubs to give privacy and colour; a new seating area and plenty of herbaceous perennials.

This is a perfect time to plant Spring and Summer flowering bulbs. In my work I love to use Camassia and Allium within my planting schemes.

Allium Purple Sensation

At last I’ve managed to get back and start the planting. The initial patio and path area just didn’t work with the rest of the garden that I’ve been developing for my client.
Adding a bend in the path and with planting areas has made a better visual connection. Once the house building work is completed we can plant the final section.
