What an amazing day today has been, the sun was out, I was expecting to be covered in dust head to toe from chasing walls for sockets, but instead I have some muddy shoes from the installation of an electric fence since our client has a dog that likes to escape. Lovely day for it and still got to finish it the fence is soo long.

As Spring Approaches time for the clocks to go back a thing everyone remembers to do! But do they check the 3 things in their house which could one day save their lives?

3 Things that takes seconds to check and should be tested regularly:

1. RCDs (Residual Current Devices) - These are located (and should be) in everyones consumer units (fuseboards). Normally found in understairs cupboards or next to the front door they have multiple switches. An RCD is identifiable by having a 'T' or 'Test' button, these can become seized if not tripped regularly. It takes seconds to check the RCD works by pressing the 'Test' button which will trip the RCD and the switch can then be reset to restore power. The purpose of an RCD is to protect humans from dangerous electrical shocks it measures current as little as 30mA which is designed to detect leakage current from a live source. This current limit is to protect the human heart and trip should current exceed that rating during a fault. The test is to ensure it trips. If it doesn't trip its strongly advised to get an electrician to check it!

2. Smoke and Heat Alarms - Normally found in the Kitchen, Hallway and Landing. These saves lives should a fire occur when everyones asleep. Each of them should be interlinked with each other meaning if one activates they all activate. They may be annoying when they do activate but they aee there to save lives. Every one of them also has a 'Test' button and its strongly recommended they are tested regularly. When the button is pressed all alarms should activate for a short period of time. It is also worth noting all of them have an expiry date on the side of them its worth replacing them if they have expired. Nearly all alarms are mains powered and its recommended an electrician replaces them.

3. Carbon Monoxide Alarm - Hidden in plain sight these are normally or should normally be found in the same room as the boiler. CO is an invisible killer it has no smell or taste. The CO Alarm works similar to a smoke alarm and also has a 'Test' button. These too also have an expiry date on them. And they also can be mains powered. It is recommended they are tested at the same as the smoke alarms and if faulty are replaced by an electrician.

Make sure everyone gets this message for all neighbours and friends 🧡 as a guideline test every time the clocks change! ⏰️ 🕒 ⚡️🔥

So March 2026! Will be our 10th year Anniversary since starting BEAR ELECTRICS! Established in March 2016 we have come soo far!

From working on behalf of Electrical companies such as; PHS Compliance, Osborne (previously with Dacorum Borough Council), Electrical Compliance and Safety, BEES Electrical, Bullies Electrics and J Holt Electrical Contractors.

All for these we are truly grateful to work for and have the opportunity to gain such amazing experiences, learning allot over these years since becoming a qualified in the electricity industry.

Thus the same goes out to all of out amazing customers too who have give us the opportunities, from working in remote farms to working in telecommunications buildings.
Along the way; fixing all kinds of electrical installations faults, installing new safety systems, carrying out professional lighting projects, testing multiple properties, installing some of the most interesting equipment, upgrading of electrical technology in homes and working with the most kindest and interesting people.

All this has given us the skills and qualities to give our customers the best electrical service experience we can provide.

2026 we are really looking to expand our business, for years we have had apprentices asking if we would take them on and unfortunately we have had to decline just because the amount of work required to keep them we do not have enough of our own works. Going forwards we would love to grow bigger, we have had a decline in customers over the last few years mostly because of consumer credit crunches and competition.

To grow we do need support and that only comes from the good people who require our electrical expertise!

For more information on services we provide:

Or WhatsApp: 07449304543 (most calls are scams so we prefer messages)

Wishing you all a Happy New Year 2026! 🥂🎆🥳
