Hybrid working has forced a rethink 💡

You may be thinking about downsizing your office space to fit your staff numbers better or just redesigning your space to allow for different uses of your space – such changes are certainly on the rise 🔝

There has been a gradual move away from rigid rows of desks squeezed into an office, to something more open and collaborative.

We are being asked about more communal spaces, ‘hot’ desking and rooms dedicated to video calls, which are still the norm for so many of us.

We’re also being asked about creating training spaces - home working is good for life/work balance, but not good for training staff so it’s important to have the right space to do that.

We're proud to have worked with Mamas and Papas for many years on a wide range of retail and head office projects.

Our most recent project was to create a flexible office environment, which will adapt in the future as flexible working becomes common.

Previously we worked on two logistics buildings for this client which delivered 5000 sqm of highbay warehousing and 750 sqm of factory store, the fully glazed gable of which provided maximum product visibility.

A retirement home for the art lovers, who wanted a design that would adapt to their changing needs.

Set amongst traditional Pennine cottages this new home relates to the established street scene whilst exploiting the 360º views of the surrounding upland countryside.

Where it faces away from other properties the building becomes more transparent. This reflects the open plan design and promotes a seamless connection with the garden.

The brief for this home in the Holme valley called for a contemporary open plan design, spaces filled with natural light and the boundary between the house and garden to be blurred.

The stark reality facing many homeowners is that precious heat is leaking out of our homes' walls, windows and roofs, all whilst energy prices keep rising.

We have some of the most poorly insulated homes in Europe and there is a lot to do to improve. Plus homes are still being built that will need retro-fitting to meet net-zero targets.

Insulation is key.

Can I add an extension on to my listed building?

Contrary to what many people may think, it is possible to alter and extend a listed building.

The guidelines have evolved over the years.

Previously, the idea was to imitate the original period building so that old and new blended seamlessly. Today, planners are in favour of maintaining a clear distinction between old and new – creating the extension out of a modern material that complements the old.
