SPRAY PLASTERING – Explained 👇

When old wallpaper is removed, the surface underneath is rarely good enough to ‘just paint’. Even in newer homes, walls still need prep and sealing to stop old paste reacting with paint applied.

If your walls look like the photos… you’ve got 3 options:

Option 1: Traditional Re-Plaster (Gypsum)

Pros:
• Can achieve a nice flat finish (if done well)

Cons:
• Cracks often return (no mesh reinforcement), both from the surface underneath & new cracks forming in the plaster as it dries out.
• Doesn’t naturally bond well — if not sealed properly it can fail… and yes, that means fall off, we’ve seen it happen!
• Can take days or weeks to dry (especially in winter)
• Can be messy

Option 2: Prep & Cross-Line with Lining Paper

(How we used to do things!)

Pros:
• Helps prevent cracks returning (non-structural)
• Clean process

Cons:
• Won’t achieve a perfectly flat finish if walls are poor underneath
• Likely needs redoing in 10–20 years

Option 3: Spray Plaster – The Gold Standard 🏆

Pros:
• Fleece system reinforcement (we install as standard) helps stop cracks returning
• Achieves a beautifully flat finish
• Much cleaner than traditional plaster
• Dries quickly — often plaster & decorate in the same week
• No mist coat needed — just 2 coats of paint
• Perfect sharp corners & archways with specialist beads
• Ready-mixed (no water needed on site)
• Fully breathable
• One point of contact if you get us to do both plastering & decorating resulting in a smoother process.

Cons:
• The machine’s a bit loud 😆 (one client said it sounded like an iron lung 🫁😂) — perfect excuse for a day out!

If you want walls that look flawless and stay that way… spray plaster is hard to beat.
