A special transformation in Kibworth for Matt and Sara 🏡

Sara grew up in this family home, and after her parents passed away, she and Matt chose to renovate rather than sell.

The original kitchen was small, with a draughty rear sitting room and cold conservatory. We designed a full-width 4m extension under permitted development, creating a spacious kitchen/diner, new utility room and a much warmer sun room connecting through to both the lounge and open-plan living space.

Velux windows bring in so much natural light, but the real showstopper is the pair of 2m-wide sliding doors opening out to the garden.

And, no project photos would be complete without Matt and Sara’s three much-loved cats making an appearance 🐾

A tiny shower room tucked into the eaves!

There wasn’t room for a hinged door here, so we used a timber barn-style sliding door on the outside instead.

I use sliding doors quite often in my designs — especially in cottages, loft spaces and awkward little areas where every inch counts. Sometimes it’s the small design decisions that make a layout really work.

HOLLIES COTTAGE ♥️ (Upstairs)

Here is the reworked first floor; now arranged as two bedrooms with a new shower room tucked into the eaves.

Previously, there was one large bedroom, a separate bathroom plus the staircase/landing. By removing the old bathroom and staircase, we were able to create a generous new king-size bedroom with a door onto the balcony.

The new staircase and shower room now sit neatly within the footprint of the original bedroom, which has been reduced but still works well as a comfortable double.

A rooflight in the shower room brings in natural light and makes the most of the sloping ceiling.

HOLLIES COTTAGE ♥️

This lovely cottage has gone from a dated 1-bed into a beautifully redesigned 2-bed Airbnb rental.

These images focus on the ground floor, where I opened up the layout and moved the staircase to improve the flow of the space. The result is a lighter, more open and much more functional living area, designed to suit modern holiday letting while still keeping the character of the cottage.

It was great to work again with , who did a fantastic job … and to have such a lovely client to work with too, who lives next door in the farmhouse.

So pleased with how this one turned out.

Some before & afters and more kitchen detail from the reconfiguration project in my last video…
The utility is now cleverly tucked behind what look like simple cabinet doors, and the new bar area was created by borrowing a slice of space from the new home office at the front of the house.

F R A M I N G T H E V I E W
Pleased to see an article on ‘picture windows’ in this months Ideal Home magazine - I’ve been incorporating these into my designs for years now, often doubling them up as deep window seats.

They flood spaces with light and frame the outdoors beautifully … and being fixed glazing they are usually more cost-effective than bi-folds, yet can feel far more dramatic and architectural.

You could even go one step further and have a modern oriel window — where the glazing projects out from the house like a glass box (photos 4 & 5). It’s a lovely way to create a light-filled nook or reading seat that adds depth and interest to an elevation.

These examples (Pinterest inspo) show how a simple, well-placed window can completely transform a home.

One of my favourite projects to date! ❤️
A lovely returning client came to me with a derelict one-bed shop in Uppingham and wanted to transform it into a two-bed holiday let that kept all the heritage character, but feels modern, fresh & cosy. It’s a Grade II listed building, so there were plenty of challenges along the way - lots of hoops to jump through (and a very annoying parking survey) - but somehow that made the final approval all the more rewarding.
The client was wonderful to work with, again, and I’m thrilled that the end result is exactly what they wanted. It’s one of those jobs that reminds me why I love what I do.

Just been back to see this loft conversion I got planning for last year - what a transformation!
What was once unused attic space is now a super light, dual aspect King size bedroom with en-suite shower and built in wardrobes.
The new staircase fits in seamlessly and even has a new velux above, flooding the hallway with light.
There’s even still storage space in the eaves for all the suitcases and Christmas decorations!

A breath of fresh air for a much-loved family kitchen ☀️
This recent internal reconfiguration proves you don’t always need an extension to make a transformative difference. By reworking the existing layout, we were able to create a brighter, more spacious dining area, complete with new rooflights and new bi-fold doors letting in more light and views from the garden.
The utility room was cleverly retained and beautifully refitted, preserving practical needs while elevating the overall design.
Huge thanks to the incredibly talented interior designer whose vision brought warmth, texture and personality to every detail — and to the brilliant builder whose craftsmanship made it all happen seamlessly.
