🌹 Your roses have given you their first flush – now it's time to say thank you!

Mid-June is the perfect moment to feed your roses after that first bloom. It replenishes what they've used up and sets them up for a second flush of flowers later in summer. Our Nutranatural Rose Food is a natural rose feed that works with your soil rather than against it, kind to the garden ecosystem and brilliant for the roses.

🌧️ Yes, it's grey and drizzly, but the warm spell is on its way, and your garden will thank you for being prepared!

When the sun does arrive later this week, watering smart will matter more than watering often.

Early morning is your golden window, it gives plants time to absorb moisture before the day heats up and cuts the risk of fungal problems. A good deep soak two or three times a week beats a daily sprinkle every time. Get that water down to the roots where it really matters. πŸ’§

πŸ’§ The single most common June gardening mistake and how to avoid it.

Watering little and often sounds sensible. In practice, it is one of the worst things you can do for most garden plants.

Frequent shallow watering encourages roots to stay near the surface where the moisture is, rather than pushing downward in search of it. A plant with shallow roots is far more vulnerable to dry spells, heat stress and wind. You are essentially training your garden to be dependent rather than resilient.

What to do instead:

πŸ’§ Water deeply and infrequently - a thorough soak once or twice a week is far more beneficial than a daily sprinkle

πŸŒ… Water in the early morning - less evaporation, better root uptake, drier foliage by evening

πŸͺ΄ Check before you water - push a finger or thin cane six inches into the soil. If it is still moist at depth, hold off

🌿 Newly planted things are the exception - these need more regular attention until their roots are established

πŸƒ Mulch everything you can - a layer of mulch over borders dramatically reduces moisture loss and keeps roots cool

A little knowledge about how plants actually drink changes everything 🌱

β˜€οΈ June sunshine is wonderful for the garden. Less wonderful for your lawn.

As temperatures rise and the mowing schedule intensifies, lawns can start to look a little tired and washed out, even when they are perfectly healthy. The lush deep green of May fades to something a bit flat and disappointing, and no amount of watering seems to bring it back.

This is where Nutra-Iron Spray-on earns its place.

It is a quick-acting soluble iron made from Ammonia Ferrous Sulphate and Citric Acid, and it does two things brilliantly:

πŸ’š Delivers a fast, visible green-up - ideal for mid-summer when lawns lose their colour in the heat

πŸ’ͺ Hardens the sward - strengthening the grass and making it more resilient

πŸ’§ Simple to apply - dissolve in water and apply with a watering can or sprayer

If your lawn is looking a little lacklustre as we move into June, this will sort it out remarkably quickly. Results are genuinely satisfying 🌿

June is here, which means the grow-your-own season is properly underway. Here is how to give your kitchen garden the best possible summer.

🌿 Feed your fruit and veg regularly. Plants that are producing have a significant nutrient demand. Our Sulphur Fruit and Veg, applied every two weeks, supports strong healthy growth and provides a natural defence against the fungal diseases that commonly affect crops in warm conditions.

πŸ… Pinch out tomato side shoots every week. Left to their own devices, tomato plants put their energy into growth rather than fruit. Keep them focused.

🫘 Support your climbing beans and sweet peas. They are going fast now. Check ties and canes after any windy weather.

πŸ₯¬ Harvest salad leaves little and often to encourage continuous new growth rather than bolting.

The kitchen garden in June, properly tended, is one of the most satisfying places to be! 🌞

A few things the garden is asking of you this week:

πŸ’§ Water in the morning if you can. It reaches the roots before the heat of the day, and wet foliage that has time to dry before evening is far less susceptible to mildew and fungal problems.

πŸͺ΄ Take a proper look at your containers. They dry out much faster than borders once the weather warms. Push your finger into the compost - there is no substitute for actually checking. A pot that looks fine from a distance can be bone dry at the root.

🌸 Plant out your dahlias if you have not already. The risk of frost has passed in most parts of the UK by late May. Get them in now and they will reward you handsomely from July through to the first autumn chill.

πŸŒ… Enjoy the longest days coming. The garden is at its most alive in late May and June, and it will not be like this again for another year.

Chelsea week leaves a particular kind of feeling behind, does it not?

A notebook full of plant names you have written down and half of which you cannot now read. A sudden and urgent desire to redesign the border you have been perfectly happy with for seven years. A renewed conviction that you could, given the right conditions and a free fortnight, really do something rather special πŸ˜„

That feeling is one of the best things about being a gardener. The garden is never quite finished. There is always another idea, another combination you have not tried, another plant that might just work in that difficult corner.

May and June are the months to act on it 🌿 The growing season is at its most generous, the nurseries are at their most stocked, and the garden is warm enough that new additions settle in happily.

As we said last week, the roses are beginning to bloom and the last thing you want now is black spot! ⚫️

Sulphur Rose Spray is the simplest and most satisfying addition to your rose care routine:

βœ… Comes ready to use - no mixing, no measuring
🌿 Spray directly onto foliage every 10 to 14 days
πŸ›‘οΈ Natural, effective protection against blackspot, powdery mildew and other fungal diseases
⭐ Rated five stars by our customers

Blackspot has a habit of appearing just as the first flush of flowers arrives. Getting ahead of it now, while conditions are right, is so much better than trying to deal with an established problem in the heat of summer β˜€οΈ
