The Albuca shawii are looking great on the nursery.

This is such an uplifting and interesting plant, great for sunny pot work and watching with a nice cool drink as the flowers open.

It likes to be in a gritty, well draining mix and is usually grown in pots, but if you had a sunny sand bed or gravel that didn't get too wet or frosty it can be grown in the ground.

A great bulbous perennial plant for early summer. Stays compact at 30cm or so and will clump up each year and is easily divided.

Come and take a seat amongst the Salvia.

Showcasing Salvia nemorosa 'Schwellenburg' in these 3 photos. This is a very special and unusual salvia with double flowers and the most gorgeous mulberry coloured flowers and a velvety, slender appearance. Another one that's great for the sun, and at the front of a border, and is always a talking point.

A small selection still remaining at the nursery today.

Propagate by cuttings. This is sterile and will not seed.

Penstemon 'Garnet' is looking gorgeous today.

We describe this as a gem within the different Penstemon cultivars, with beautiful wine red flowers and a subtle white throat, held tall at 90cm or so on slender dark stems.

This will flower throughout summer to autumn. Best in a sunny position in soil that drains relatively well over winter.

Propagate by cuttings.

Another great Salvia nemorosa, this time it's 'Amethyst'

Full of flower (for months!) and creates a great scene of amethyst spires en masse. Height 70-100cm, spread 50cm or so. For a sunny spot that's not too wet over winter, otherwise any reasonable garden soil.

Brings in the bees too 🐝

The pink green contrast of Euphorbia sikkimensis 'Crûg Contrast' is really coming through at the moment.

This is a superb Euphorbia for sun or light shade where it will clump up readily and roam through the borders, popping up and adding its contrasting colours throughout. Our plants in the garden are approaching flowering too, with the classical acid yellow flowers on top of these lovely stems. Height 80-100cm and a similar spread.

Though it roams it has a much looser and more open habit than Euphoria griffithii and is very easy to simply dig or pull up where you don't want it.

It copes very well with our clay soil but of course it will love an even better drained soil, though doesn't need the ultra-sharp drainage of some Euphorbia.

This is such a useful white Geranium nodosum, 'Wreighburn House White'

It has relatively tall and large flowers compared to other white nodosum, with beautiful green nodosum foliage and is a tough, vigorous plant in a shady spot.

Great for that clean, elegant, natural look, and to light areas up.

This was originally found in the garden of Wreighburn House in Thropton, Northumberland, by Cyril Foster.

We love it and have got it out for sale now on the nursery.

Lots of colour working together on the nursery and we love the contrasts of Euphorbia ceratocarpa with the various Penstemon, Salvia, Nepeta, Diascia and Pennisetum.

Euphorbia ceratocarpa, the horned spurge, provides great form and colour, reaching around 1.5m tall in the ground and a similar spread over a few years. Much more light and airy than Euphoria mellifera. Great for a hot sunny border with good drainage, or we also use them for large pot displays which will restrict its size. Evergreen, perennial and often flowers late spring through to autumn.

Euphorbia

Linaria 'Peachy' has a lovely soft peach and apricot colouring and flowers for months and months often from late spring to early autumn.

It thrives in full sun in well drained soil and sends up more and more stems from the base as the season goes on and you can deadhead and prune as you wish. Usual height of 60-100cm and spread of 30-50cm.

Propagate by cuttings, rather than seed.

Great for a warm summer border 🍑

A selection of some of our Achillea.

Such a useful herbaceous perennial for those usually flat top umbels with a wide range of colours. We are showing 'Paprika' (photo 2) and 'Lilac Beauty' (photo 3) and 'Saucy Seduction' (photo 4).

But you have Achillea ptarmica 'Peter Cottontail' too (photo 1), with its soft-white pom pom or button flowers rather than the classic umbel shape. ⚪

For sunshine in an area with a nice depth of soil and not too soggy over winter. They clump up well, are easily divided, and have a presence alongside an airy and upright habit. 🌞
