Even a brand-new building from Sheds N Chalets arrives with just one basecoat of water-based treatment, which is designed to protect it during installation only. Most treatments recommend three coats on new timber, so applying a good-quality oil-based or solvent-based wood preservative shortly after installation is essential. After that, the process should be repeated every year without fail. You will also want to seal all windows inside and out as soon as possible using silicone or a similar watertight solution, and keep any overhanging branches or hedging cut back well clear of the roof felt.
