Introducing myself: Afsaneh, pronounced “Af-san-ay” is a Persian name meaning fairy tale or story. When my father came to England in 1958, he brought his passion for Iranian culture and design that he imparted on his children. Traditional Persian garden design creates an “earthly paradise” where spaces for contemplation and celebration come together through geometric design, with an emphasis on water, shade, edible planting and joining the indoor space with the outdoors, things that are still relevant in garden design today.

The link between time we spend outdoors and our improved wellbeing is a well-recognised one. Research has repeatedly shown the benefits that our green spaces can have on our mental and physical wellbeing.
The RHS' Wellbeing Fellow, Lauriane Chalmin-Pui, talks about her work.

What better way to celebrate the RHS' National Gardening Week, than the launch of the Wellbeing Gardens page.

With the sun shining, spring flowers displaying their magic and wildlife erupting into life, the wellbeing opportunities that our gardens and outside spaces can present, is exciting and offers much hope for the coming year.

If you need help and advice on creating your own "happy place" in your garden or outside space, do get in touch.
