‘Forever the Optimist’

Being optimistic isn’t about pretending the bad weather isn’t there, it’s about believing it will pass and the sun will come out. 🌞

Sometimes the healthiest type of love doesn’t arrive with fireworks. It arrives quietly and gently.

The right relationship doesn’t keep you guessing, chasing, walking on eggshells or like you’re entering a battleground. It gives you the space to be yourself, space to grow, to feel seen, heard, safe and respected.

Real love doesn’t shame you, or ask you to earn its place. It simply makes room for you to grow side by side.

Love isn’t measured in intensity; it’s measured by the peace you feel when you are together- and equally when you are apart.

True love should feel like calm not chaos.

“Success often lies beyond the point where most people give up” - Thomas Edison

No one begins a project expecting to quit. We set our goals with hope, determination, and the belief that we will eventually reach them. However, the road to success is rarely straightforward, and is often peppered with challenges along the way that make us question whether to continue.

There have been many times when I’ve felt that what I’m trying to achieve is too out of reach, and I confess, I have given up on…but given time, I’ve thought ‘I’ll give it another go’. I’ve learned that persistence and hard work often matters more than talent and luck. Every time I’ve chosen to give it another go I’ve gained a better understanding of what I’m trying to achieve and how to get there.

You only truly fail when you stop trying. So, never give up on that dream, you never know how close you might be to success.

At the beginning of this year, I made a promise to myself to push my work as hard as possible, so that meant I had to incorporate Instagram into my daily routine and share my work as often as I realistically could.

Creating for social media has now become part of my working day and I’ve learned to accept that.

I’m certain that there will be some artists who disagree with me, (but for me I have no other form of income or support) being an artist today also means being a content creator if you want your work to reach a wider audience. This is something I’ve struggled with at times, especially when knowing that making these reels actually takes valuable hours away from painting itself. It’s undeniably ironic that I spend so much time documenting my work instead of making it.

But perhaps it will be worth it in the end? I’m curious to see where it all leads, and maybe one day I’ll look back and think, jumping jellyfish!…it actually worked!

Instagram continues to favour reels more and more, and as someone who makes a living from static art, adapting to that feels unnatural but unavoidable. Still, I hope there’s room here for good quality work, for making things that feel true to myself, in a space that moves very quickly. Maybe this reel is also a way of finding other artists and people who feel the same way.

So, in this reel above, is a story I wrote and narrated especially for this painting, a painting I created in oils, and then was brought to life through animation by another wonderfully talented artist…and the best bit is that none of this was created with AI or ChatGPT. So you’ll have to excuse any grammatical errors, repetition or spelling mistakes. I’m only human.

I think that if artists continue supporting one another, encouraging one another, and sharing each other’s work, there will always be space for real art, as well as art for instagrams sake.

So, if this work speaks to you in some way, a like, comment, or share really does help more than you know.

‘Parade to the Solstice’ the original oil painting is available to buy on my website.
