Chelsea Garden Update: We’ve thought we were past the worse of it when we dug out 130 tonnes of mud by hand, into buckets, through the basement, up the stairs and into skips; but no, we had to get back into the garden, over 50 tonnes of concrete, blocks, re-bar and shuttering to get us to our current stage today - now ready for the patio slabs! It’s been emotional to put it politely, but nearly there! (Swipe to see how far we’ve come!)

Stay tuned to see this unfold, all in perfect time for Spring… 💪🏼💥

Who doesn’t like a Before and After photo… especially in the renovations game?!

This job was actually called “The Whole 9 Yards Reno”… because we literally did everything you can to a house, to only not upgrade but to future proof too:

- Extension on side of the house for more space
- New roof
- Basement dug out, and house supported on 18 steels
- All brand new bespoke sash windows made up in carpentry shop and replaced old
- Air heat source pump system installed
- Solar panels
- Full re- wire
- New driveway
- Whole outside of the house re-pointed
- New bathrooms and bedrooms
- Floors sanded and stained
- Carpets
- New Kitchen

To name just a few things we did…. A fantastic job in the heart of Blackheath.

So far this week we’ve talked about all the works we can do on a house, but what about the garden? We love a garden renovation here at RR’s; there’s something about the outdoors and not being covered in dust from taking out a chimney stack or removing a 150 year old internal supporting wall!

This was one of our favourite garden projects, whereby we created a tier system with retaining walls. We are currently in Chelsea on an enormous garden project…. So far 130 tonnes of mud and soil has been removed and 40 tonnes of concrete has gone back in…. Stay tuned for this was, an epic piece of work is unfolding (see last two photos!)

Extensions! - So what’s the one question we get asked weekly, if not daily here at RR’s? How much is an extension these days?

Well there are soo many factors and variables that affect the costings on this, but we do have a rule of thumb that can be helpful as a basic guide:

If you are on a budget and looking for a standard extension, with standard finishes; work out the square metre of the extension/works undertaken and for every 1m2, times it by £2750.

If you are looking for a John Lewis, Marks and Spencers food level finish extension, for every m2, times it by £3750-£4,000 and if you are looking for Selfridges/Harrods on another level finish; then start at a minimum of £5,000 per m2 and then some!
(This is a guide, not gospel!)

However, what we will say, is if you really hunt around and plan well, there is a world of discounts out there (including what your builder can get) for kitchens, tiles, paints, glazing etc

For example, did you know you can take the codes from Farrow and Ball and have the paint made up at a lot lower cost with another paint supplier? Did you know if you get a quote from one of the major kitchen suppliers out there and take it to the other ones; they will all offer you the world and a lower price and eventually your original quote will drop by a long shot! There are plenty more tricks in the books, but book in a free consultation for works with us and we will happily let you into all the trade secrets!

These are just a few of the extensions we’ve done over the years; enjoy!

So today we’re show casing 2 projects, where by we didn’t go out, as in put an Extension in or up I.e a Loft Conversion, but instead we removed walls internally to open up the downstairs areas to make a larger kitchen/dining area.

1st set of photos was a job completed in Greenwich and the 2nd set of photos is for a wonderful client, Richard and Jo, who live in Eltham and have very kindly invited us back to renovate their garden; look forward to seeing you guys in March!

This week we will be show casing exactly the type of works we undertake here at Russell’s Renovations; starting this Sunday with this beautiful basement dig out under the house, with an extension on top to finish it off!

This was one of the most arduous renovations we under took; digging under a house and down is always challenging; but the endless possibilities with what you can do for space are unlimited. This client decided to have an entrance/exit out of the basement up the steps into the garden, one from the extension into the garden plus one at the front up the basement steps into the street.

A beautiful build completed in Blackheath for a wonderful family.

Tomorrow; we will show you how we can find space in your house without having to build an extension and go out into the garden; stay tuned!

130 Tonnes of soil, flint/rock and clay, dug out by hand; bucketed through a basement flat and up into the street. Without doubt one of the most arduous digs we’ve undertaken. No diggers, no conveyor belts; just pure grit and an attitude of, “Just get it done”. The team were phenomenal.

Now we’re onto the good stuff; the re-build. Watch as this 3 tier garden in Chelsea unfolds…

We’re sorry! We’ve not posted in a while… but all for good reason… it’s been non stop and we’ve just opened the final renovation of the year in Chelsea, London - a beautiful garden renovation is underway!

Meantime though, we’ve got 3 bathrooms going in at our Brentwood job, a full garden construction on the back of the house happening too; kitchen going in, and boarding and skimming going along like clock work. At our Edwardian renovation; we’re onto the last few paint strokes; guess how many tiles were laid in the en-suite? 760 of those beautiful burgundy little buggers… And finally, the dig into the garden in Chelsea has started (final photo!) this is going to be a superb turn around of this garden - stay tuned!

Looking to do works in 2026? Then drop us a line, be it a small little room Reno or a whole house; we’ll happy give a free estimate and advice on all works!
