Our homes are so much more than functional places, they are our sanctuary, our safe space away from the busy-ness and chaos of the world so it is essential that we give them the love and care they need. A beautiful home is not an indulgence, it is a necessary that supports us to go out and be in the chaos of the world without getting overwhelmed by it. My role is to implement my clients vision but for me it is also to leave them with a space which feels amazing, one where you can unwind and be yourself.

This project was one I did for a client to make her master bedroom feel more homely, we replaced the old bed with a custom made bed covered with a beautiful thick weave from and a linen piping fabric, also from . Throw and curtains bespoke by . Cushions and wallpaper sourced elsewhere.

Thank you .fickling for the amazing photographs

Is it worth paying for quality contractors?

Over the years and with experience I feel it is important not to under estimate the value in using, looking after and sticking with quality contractors. A good contractor is not necessarily expensive though invariably you do pay more for quality but they always need to care about what they do. I don't normally post projects before they are completed but when the finish is this good it is lovely to see it before all of the furniture and finishes go in.
It took the team 6 days to lay this floor with the curved step and they have done a beautiful job. I have worked with this contractor for around 10 years now and I have to say they deliver with absolute care and detail every time. The step has now been templated for the curved nosing to be added and I can't wait to see it when it is all complete.
If you are embarking on a design scheme and would like to remove the hassle then I would highly recommend sourcing a team with experience and expertise to deliver your project to a high standard.

How to ensure a quality finish from your builders?

A recommendation is absolutely a good place to start but not something to rely on, as it doesn't always guarantee a good quality product at the end. Equally as important would be to visit a recent project completed or nearing completion from the contractor, which is good practice but again doesn't give any guarantees. Working with a professional who has a long standing relationship their contractors and knows the quality of their finish from the start to the end of a project gives you a greater peace of mind. All too often we find poor workmanship left by contractors which needs to be rectified. We have long standing relationships with a number of architects, engineers, surveyors, project managers and contractors who consistently delivery a high standard of finish, including the work that you ultimately will never see ie work to the sub floors, foundations and plumbing or what is behind fixtures and fittings.

I’ve been inspired by my incredible 13 year old daughter to do more with marketing as she has literally blown me away with the styling of her Christmas cards. They went from flat images on a white background to these. None of it was anything to do with me, all her ideas and her wish to present her work in the best light. Not only that but I love the simple designs in her cards and her commitment to create stock before going live and thanks to all her hard work she has sold out already. (More stock on its way I believe and a link to her shop below). Good on you gorgeous, with all this A1 coming our way the world is going to be crying out for creatives like you ❤️❤️❤️

How to make sustainable interior design choices and be responsible when sourcing for our homes

I thought I would do a post on conscious interior design as it strikes me that the impact of the last year has made us more aware of what is important, where we are choosing to spend our money and why we are investing in the first place.
For me interior design isn't just about creating an environment that is aesthetically pleasing, it's also about creating a space that brings us joy and enhances our sense of wellbeing and what comes with that is a responsibility of where and from whom I source products from.
So how do we make more sustainable interior design decisions?
Working with brands who either produce all of their products in the UK or who buy their raw materials from within Europe reduces the carbon footprint whilst supporting the local economy. I prefer to purchase from smaller brands particularly after the exponential growth of the larger companies during the last twelve months. It is these smaller creatives who make our communities what they are after all.
Where possible I focus on using products which have less impact on our environment, linen for example uses far less water during the manufacturing process than cotton does. There are now some fantastic fabrics which are being produces from 80% recycled cotton from the fashion industry or recycled plastics which are not expensive and have excellent durability.
Revamping what we already have in our homes is another way to both save money and create an interesting interior without impacting the environment. Using environmentally friendly paints which give off far less toxins is just as good as using oil based paints and far better for both our lungs and our planet.
Purchasing antiques both brings character to our homes and has less impact on our environment from production, plus it has already stood the test of time and will be less likely to end up in landfill once you have tired of it as it will no doubt change hands again and find it's way to a new home.
And finally, if you are buying new, perhaps think twice about buying inexpensive items which you will tire of in a few years with buying something that is quality, that will last, that you will love for years to come, that you can re-upholster or even take with you when you move. Post the war, possessions were treasured, we bought less but what we did buy meant a lot and were kept for years to come.
If you are planning a refurbishment project or wanting to revamp a space then please do not hesitate to drop me a line on [email protected], I would be very happy to chat through your ideas and aspirations.

I have just completed the makeover of this kitchen, we have gone from an industrial feel with dark wood veneer kitchen units to a contemporary matt black flat panelled Scandi feel with a pop of colour.

I often get asked to houses when a project is well underway and the client is feeling overwhelmed or stuck on the choices they are making. There is a belief that interior designers are expensive but 9 times out of 10, I save the client money on the initial consultation so I felt to share a post with a few tips on embarking on a refurbishment.

1) Plan in advance, the best thing you can do is plan all your design decisions at the same time as your build, use the professionals you need for the size of job you are doing as professionals invariably save you money in the long run and avoid the temptation of instructing a builder and agreeing a start date without making your design decisions first. This will save you time, money and stress.

2) Once you have planned what you are going to do, then go to your builder to price it, that way you will get a more accurate price, your builder will be happy with the detail and you will be prepared for when he says he can start. What you don't want is a build contract with lots of unknowns in it because you want the end price to be the same price as the original price.

3) Fine tune your design, if you haven't already so both you and your builder knows exactly what is going where. If a builder is handed a bundle at the start of the job with drawings, specification, fittings and so on, you will be starting off with the best possible chance of a stress free build and there is far less likely that there will be any difficulties with you builder.

4) Lastly, enjoy the process as it's not everyday you get to refurbish your own home just how you want it, so plan, be prepared so that you can enjoy choosing all the details.
