IKEA PAX Hack
You’ll first need to build a base for the units. Obviously the length and width will be dictated by the size of wardrobes you choose.
To work out the base height: measure the height of your skirting and deduct the height from the bottom of the wardrobe unit to the bottom of the wardrobe door. Make sure you allow a few mm additional so the door can open without hitting the skirting once fitted.
Once you’ve made your base, you’ll need to remove the skirting from the wall. There is a special tool you can get to do this pretty easily.
We didn’t bother removing the carpet, but we did have to remove the gripper because it was preventing the base sitting level.
Once your base is in position you’ll be able to put the wardrobes on top. You may need to do a bit of extra levelling here using pac levellers/wedges. Then you can fit the skirting.
N.B. If you haven’t removed the carpet you’re likely to need to trim a bit off the bottom of the new skirting to ensure this lines up.
The wardrobe side will need a few coats of a shiny surfaces primer, before you can paint it your chosen colour.
