AMBS was founded in the UK in 1996 by Ali Mousawi expanding upon over 40 years of outstanding design through his Iraqi Architecture practice, Ali Mousawi And Partners. Renowned for his mastery and influential hands-on approach to design, Ali partnered in 2007 with Architects Marcos De Andres and son Amir Mousawi to launch a new multi-faceted team to the global stage. Since then AMBS has won a num

ber of high profile projects and international competitions including the new iconic Baghdad National Library, the project supervision of the Sports City of Basra and the master planning of the prestigious Noor Midelt. The latter is expected to be the largest solar thermal energy facility in the world. AMBS Architects is an international practice with offices in London, Baghdad , Basra and Marrakech.

Solar energy is clean energy! Since 2016 - AMBS Architects have been quietly working on a Solar Farm in an undisclosed location for a private client.

At AMBS we are committed to building a sustainable future for our planet. No greenhouse gas emissions are released into the atmosphere when you use solar panels to create electricity. Throwback to the late 70’s, when AMBS founder Ali Mousawi and his tremendously talented late brother Sami Mousawi built this luxury apartment complex in the Al Hamra area in Iraq. The project was a fine example of the Mousawi brothers style of the 70’s that they built their reputation on - when dealing with the mass as a piece of sculpture and enhancing the form to blend in with its surroundings. ‘A modern approach to the Islamic concept of design emphasising simplicity of materials and richness of form’. Al Harma is in a part of Iraq called Al Jadiriah, where the river Tigris intertwines to create a semi island of unique beauty.

It is with huge sadness that we announce the passing of the Great Iraqi Architect, Sami Mousawi.
He was the elder brother to Ali Mousawi, founder of AMBS.
Our heart felt condolences go out to his Son, Sherif, and partner in life, Helen, as well as the entire Mousawi and extended family.
He was internationally renowned as a pioneer in post modern and Islamic architecture.
Some of his award winning projects include:

- The Mosque of Rome, Italy
- Sarawak State Mosque, Malaysia
- Haifa street development, Iraq

He will be missed by many!
