The relationship between the remains of the building's original fabric and the new additions is highlighted in this view. The existing colonnade and dome are presented as the focal points of the interior by surrounding them with a contemporary minimal architecture that blends with the original fabric without trying to imitate it.

From our proposal for The design of the Al Nouri Mosque and it's surrounding complex, a front perspective view showcasing our design as well as a picture showing the existing remains of the mosque and its original extents.

Our design ethos for the project was not to rebuild the existing mosque as it was, but to support the existing dome and partial internal colonnades that have survived and build around them a new new contemporary structure that is guided by the proportions of the original in order to 'complete' the missing portions of the mosque.

In the same way that throughout the history of the mosque, additions and changes were being made to it, we viewed our scheme as a continuation of this cycle of renewal and evolution that the mosque had always gone through.
