Week 07- 12 October

Our plumber finished pipe work for cold and hot water system, tested them and found no leaks. We were now able to start on the bathrooms, as well as closing up floors and walls. However, we still did not have the final drawings from the architect for the bathroom layouts – she said we worked too fast and she could not get the drawings done in time! Plastering is still in progress and will be finished soon.

Originally it was estimated that this project would be completed by the middle of January 2020, but after five weeks we had done over 50% of the work. The client had rented a house for four months, but as the work has progressed much faster than expected, he will be able to move back home approximately 6 weeks earlier than initially planned.

Week 30 Sep – 05 October

We had to remove the ceiling in the games room, as after removing the partition between the living room and games room we found a significant difference of the levels.

This week we also installed a steel beam on the second floor to support the roof construction, because when we opened up the floors to install the plumbing we discovered that the existing wooden beams supporting the roof construction were not strong enough and were bent.

We also started plastering, as there was a huge amount to be done across the entire house. Our plumber also installed a new boiler and a new 300 liters megaflo, as well as starting installation of first fix pipe work for cold and hot water.

Week 23 – 28 September

On Monday the architect visited and she could not believe that we had done so much work! She said we had made huge progress.

During the week we finished building the new walls and completed the first part of the central heating pipework installation. A kitchen window was removed and the opening was enlarged to allow for a much larger window.

After removing wallpaper throughout the house we found many large cracks in the ceilings and walls, so we started repairing them using a special fat and strong netting with adhesive to ensure it never cracks again (some ceilings and walls are still built up from batons with render on top). We also completed the initial installation of the electrics, with all cables put in place.

Week 16 -21 September

We finished stripping the wallpaper from the house and started on the plumbing. The old water tanks and unnecessary pipework were removed from the loft and other floors and we began installing new plumbing. We also upgraded the water supply to the house by replacing old lead pipe with new, blue, larger diameter plastic pipe to increase water pressure. Some of the new walls were built, as marked on drawings, as well as a few other tasks.

Our electrician also stripped out all the old electrics and started installing cables as part of the installation of new electrics throughout the house. He installed a temporary electrical board with a few double sockets while this work was proceeding.

The owner visited on Saturday and was very happy that so much progress had been made.

Week 09 – 14 September

This week we enlarged an opening in the main exterior wall where an extension had previously been built. We replaced a steel beam with a longer one to support the external wall (after first laying new padstones in accordance with a structural engineer’s calculations and guidelines). In addition, we demolished two chimneys and installed two beams to support the chimney breasts. We also stripped wallpaper from a number of rooms.

Week 04 – 07 Sep 2019

On the 4 September we started a new project in Dulwich Village (Gilkes Crescent). It is a large semi-detached house with five bedrooms, three bathrooms, two toilets, a shower room, a good-sized kitchen with a big dining room, a living room, study, games room and gym.

We are completely remodelling the house, including the removal of two chimneys, installing two new bathrooms and two toilets and removing and rebuilding a number of walls. We are also changing a huge roof window and replacing a bi-fold garden door. In addition, new plumbing, electrics and an alarm are being fitted; in other words: a whole house alteration.

By the end of the first week we completed all the demolition and stripping work, removing the existing sanitary ware and tiles from the bathrooms and toilets and stripping out the radiators from all the rooms. We also removed all the walls marked for demolition, stripped out the wooden floors from the ground and second floors and removed the carpets from the first floor.
