Waiting for Spring and an end to the rain so that these beds within the newly laid patio space can be planted and the parasol Morus trees can come into their own. Any ideas how long it’ll be….?

As part of a larger front and rear garden design and installation, this path is the penultimate work to be done before the final reveal. Built by my own fair hands, as is the rest of the project, this path of Moroccan encaustic cement tiles from .boutique add some pizazz to the front of the house. Who wouldn’t want to come home to this?!

I’m a big fan of desert modernism and this garden was a nod to that style, with large format paving, locally sourced aggregate, a water feature, locally-quarried boulders and a very summery colour palette. The planting also reflects the style of modernist planting, albeit with hardier species.

An outdoor kitchen is tiled with encaustic cement tiles from .boutique as are the tiles for the raised bed, the floating patio and the Brera paving tiles are from and the aggregates and boulders were sourced locally from .group The rear of the kitchen was clad in 1.5mm cor ten sheets from the hit-and-miss fencing was bespoke with the timber sourced from Gaza Timber and the hedges from

Overall project budget was around £60k

A little garden design and installation recently completed in Vigo, Kent. Trying to create interest in a narrow space with a huge neighbouring garage wall as part of the garden was tricky but by creating everything on the diagonal I managed to ‘widen’ the garden and using a mix of materials for the path and paving (supplied by ) create interest on the ground to take the eye away from the brick buildings. Creating cohesion, however, with those brick walls was also important, whilst breaking up the garden with large beds of planting helps soften the space.
Superbly built by with plants supplied by and and raised bed cladding from Now we just need a little furniture to finish it off…

A lovely little planting plan in Bexley, South East London. The client asked for a tropical feel so I added some popping colours, some tropical plants (Musa (banana), Feijoa, Tetrapanax, Tricyrtis (Japanese Toad Lily), Fatsia) and some interesting cultivars of popular plants such as Aquilegia Yellow Queen, Heuchera Forever Red and Alstroemeria Indian Summer. Pop, Pop, POP!!! Now all they need is some sun… 🥶

When one gets a lovely garden update from a client a yet after the project has been completed it makes one’s day. Here’s a before shot and a few afters sent by the client recently. Such a lovely couple and an absolute pleasure to have designed for. They even let me paint the back of their house a totally new colour as part of the project. Legends…!

Just wanted to update you on how TOTALLY WONDERFUL our patio is. WE BOTH ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. I’ve been putting some time in the past month with cleaning and maintaining. Its just super! Now its finished, everybody who visits loves it too! And we love the colours!! You were right! Plants are doing great… and that Acer in the pot is a joy. Thank you again -you’ve given us something really special. (Feel free to quote me!) 🙏😊

No better testimonial than that…

A few 2024 highlights. Some extraordinary gardens this year, lots of different styles on display, not sure I love the Balcony Garden category, perhaps they could replace it with a Front Garden category instead? Most balcony’s I know are nowhere near the size of the ones on display. But overall a stellar show this year and the house plant area is a big thumbs up. My favourite garden was a the planting, the attention to detail, the placement of some of the stone in the garden and of@course that amazing structure and it’s detail; loved the spiralling on the ‘legs’ to resemble the way water drains down a plug hole. An exceptional design. Next stop rhshampton_showteam

Whilst I wait for a sunny day for a final ‘Field Project’ update, here’s the next design waiting to be installed. A little garden in Vigo, Kent. Set on the diagonal to enlarge the space, it features a raised veg bed wrapped in Dark Mocha Premium DesignClad from some beautiful cream porcelain and clay pavers from with a floating bench and some abundant planting for such a small space. An area for a weekend breakfast near the house and an area for a little evening G&T at the end of the garden, with planting hiding both areas from each other to create separate zones. Can’t wait to get started and share updates from the middle of May

Just a few shots of the autumnal beauty of (Stourhead) in Wiltshire. A stunning place to wander around at any time of year but it comes into its own when the leaves turn. Just look at those colours.
