Showing off my tomato plant flowers 🌼🍅
This year, there are so many giant flowers coming through already, and I’m honestly surprised they made it this far.

After planting them on the 27th of April, it’s been a really tough season with the weather and everything else… but hopefully they’ve survived and are finally starting to thrive.

Now we wait and see how many tomatoes we get 🤞🍅

My tomatoes were already struggling outside through 2°C nights for days, and today was finally the first morning that didn’t feel freezing. I honestly thought things were about to get better… and then the hail came 🌨️🍅

At this point, this is easily the worst growing season I’ve ever had. Cold, wind, rain, and now hail in May. Trying to grow tomatoes here is becoming a full-time emotional experience 😩🇬🇧

My tomato plant just started forming its first blossom… but after two nights near 2°C and ice on my windshield this morning, I’m honestly scared it’s already dead 🥶🍅

Tomatoes are supposed to struggle below 10°C, and near freezing the cells can literally burst from ice formation. Looking at this blossom now wondering if it actually survived.

Maybe it’s also a reminder that nothing in gardening should be rushed 🌱

What do you think — will it make it?

This is a snapshot from my soil from yesterday 🍅

pH: 6.4

For growing giant tomatoes, that pH of 6.4 sits right in the optimal range (6.0–6.8). In this slightly acidic zone, key nutrients like phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and magnesium are at their most available. Step outside this range, and chemistry starts working against you—phosphorus can become fixed in the soil, calcium uptake drops (leading to issues like blossom end rot), and microbial activity slows down.

The science behind it is simple but critical: soil pH controls ion solubility and microbial processes that convert organic matter into plant-available nutrients. Even nutrient-rich soil won’t perform if the pH locks those elements away.

If your pH is too low → add lime to raise it
If your pH is too high → add sulfur or organic matter to lower it

Consistent monitoring like this is how you fine-tune conditions for maximum growth. Big tomatoes don’t happen by accident—they’re engineered from the soil up.

Such an exciting stage 🌱🍅✨

My giant tomato seedlings still have their cotyledons (seed leaves) and their first pair of true leaves — and now they’re just starting to push out their second set of true leaves 🙌🌿

What’s really interesting this year is that I’ve changed my approach slightly… and it’s clearly made a difference. These second true leaves are coming through earlier than I’d normally expect ⏱️👀

For growers, this is a key moment. The cotyledons got them started, the first true leaves kicked off real photosynthesis, and this next set shows the plant is building strength and momentum 💪☀️

It’s a great reminder that even small tweaks in how we grow — light, warmth, timing, or care — can have a noticeable impact 🌍💚

From tiny seeds to this… it never stops being amazing ✨

First tomato seedlings of the season are up! 🌱🍅

One of my Giant Martini seedlings surprised me — it came up with three cotyledons (seed leaves) instead of the usual two.

Tomatoes normally germinate with a pair of cotyledons, so having three is a rare developmental variation that happens during early embryo formation. I don’t remember seeing this before in this variety, so this one will definitely be fun to watch as it grows.

Nature always finds little ways to surprise us in the garden 🌱

Seed season officially started 🌱🍅

Just finished sorting and planting the seeds for this year’s tomato grow, and the collection is looking pretty exciting. A mix of old favorites, saved seeds from previous harvests, and a few new varieties I couldn’t resist trying.

There’s something satisfying about opening the seed box and planning the whole season from these tiny packets. Every one of them holds the potential for a completely different plant, flavor, and harvest.

Now the real work begins: germination, careful watering, and a bit of patience.

Here’s to a great growing season ahead! 🌿☀️

🌿🍅 Tomato Talk – Roots & Late Blooms! 🍅🌿

These are my pulled-up tomato plants — just to show how much stronger the root system gets when you plant deep! 🌱💪
You can really see the difference — those extra roots make all the difference for a healthy, productive plant.

And would you believe it’s November and one of them still has a blossom? 😍 Nature always surprises.

🥇🍅 Big news from the garden! My Portuguese Giant just tipped the scales at 1260 grams (2.78 lbs) 🤯 Making it officially my second largest tomato this year! That means the legendary Gigante Martini now moves down to third place.

This beauty is an absolute monster — dense, juicy, and a perfect example of why I love growing these giants. 🌱💪 Nothing more satisfying than seeing the hard work pay off with results like this!
