Several athletes who competed at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games have reportedly gone missing after the event concluded.

According to reports, four members of Uganda’s boxing team—Nuhu Batte, Angel Katushabe, Ibrahim Kemis, and Emily Nakalema—did not return home with the rest of their delegation. Local media say the athletes may be planning to seek asylum in Scotland in hopes of pursuing better boxing opportunities.

Pakistani boxer Qudrat Ullah has also been reported missing after failing to board his team’s flight home.

Police Scotland confirmed it has received reports of several athletes who are unaccounted for and said investigations are ongoing in coordination with the UK Home Office.

This is not the first time athletes have remained in the UK after the Commonwealth Games. Similar incidents occurred following the 2014 Glasgow Games, when several competitors stayed behind to seek asylum or pursue new opportunities.

Any asylum applications would be assessed individually under UK immigration laws.

The UK government has announced that prisoners convicted of r**e, child grooming, and other serious sexual offences will be excluded from the early release scheme in England and Wales. The change comes after widespread public concern and pressure from victims’ families and campaigners.

The decision means offenders convicted of these serious crimes will no longer be eligible for the early release measures designed to ease prison overcrowding. Victims’ groups have welcomed the move, saying public safety must come first.

What do you think? Is this the right decision, or should the government go even further? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

🇺🇸 Trump Announces Trade Investigation After EU Fines Google

US President Donald Trump has criticised the European Union after it imposed two major fines on Google for alleged violations of the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA).

In a post on Truth Social, Trump called the EU’s actions “illegal and highly discriminatory” and announced that the United States will launch a Section 301 trade investigation into what he described as repeated targeting of American companies.

The European Commission fined Google €460 million over allegations that it gave preferential treatment to its own services in search results, and €430 million over rules that allegedly restricted app developers from directing users to alternative payment options or app stores. The Commission says these practices breach the Digital Markets Act.

Google has strongly rejected the decision. Kent Walker, President of Global Affairs at Google, argued that the DMA forces the company to remove popular search features and weakens consumer experience, saying the regulation “should improve products, not make them worse.”

The announcement adds to ongoing trade tensions between the US and the EU over technology regulation and competition policy.

🇺🇸 US Pauses Iran Strikes as Diplomatic Efforts Continue

The United States has reportedly paused its airstrikes against Iran for a third consecutive night after senior military officials advised President Donald Trump that the campaign had reached the limits of its effectiveness and that US stockpiles of key munitions were becoming depleted.

According to reports, the pause comes as diplomatic talks continue between US and Iranian officials, with mediation involving Oman, in an effort to prevent a return to full-scale conflict. Iran has also stated that it has suspended what it described as “retaliatory” attacks against US allies.

President Trump has said that “all options remain on the table,” while signalling that negotiations are ongoing. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to meet with Trump in Washington this week, where discussions are likely to focus on Iran, regional security, and the future of US policy.

The temporary lull in fighting has also contributed to a decline in global oil prices as markets react to hopes of de-escalation.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS | U.S.-Iran Tensions Escalate

President Donald Trump has vowed “major military punishment” against Iran and the Iran-backed Houthi rebels following attacks on Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea.

According to Reuters, the attacks have intensified fears of a wider regional conflict, with the Red Sea emerging as another critical flashpoint alongside the Strait of Hormuz. The escalation briefly pushed Brent crude oil above $100 per barrel, raising concerns over global energy supplies and shipping routes.

Despite the strong warning, President Trump said the United States remains open to a diplomatic solution, even as U.S. forces continue military operations against Iranian targets.

🌍 Why it matters:

* Rising risk of a broader Middle East conflict.
* Global oil prices remain under pressure.
* Key international shipping lanes face increasing security threats.
* World leaders are closely monitoring the rapidly changing situation.

📰 MAGA Influencer Laura Loomer Reverses Stance on Ukraine After Kyiv Visit

A dramatic shift has emerged within conservative U.S. politics as prominent MAGA influencer Laura Loomer publicly reversed her long-held criticism of Ukraine following a visit to Kyiv.

During her trip, Loomer met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, experienced an air raid, and visited locations affected by Russian attacks. After witnessing the situation firsthand, she acknowledged that her previous views had been influenced by misinformation and called for “moral clarity” in supporting Ukraine against Russia’s invasion.

The visit has drawn attention because Loomer has been one of the most vocal conservative critics of U.S. support for Ukraine. Her change in position could signal a broader shift in opinion among some figures within the MAGA movement, although views remain divided. During the meeting, President Zelenskyy also said he expects to meet with Donald Trump in Washington next week, highlighting ongoing diplomatic engagement.

What do you think?
Can firsthand experience change political perspectives, or is this simply a strategic shift?
