Several athletes who competed at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games have reportedly gone missing after the event concluded.
According to reports, four members of Uganda’s boxing team—Nuhu Batte, Angel Katushabe, Ibrahim Kemis, and Emily Nakalema—did not return home with the rest of their delegation. Local media say the athletes may be planning to seek asylum in Scotland in hopes of pursuing better boxing opportunities.
Pakistani boxer Qudrat Ullah has also been reported missing after failing to board his team’s flight home.
Police Scotland confirmed it has received reports of several athletes who are unaccounted for and said investigations are ongoing in coordination with the UK Home Office.
This is not the first time athletes have remained in the UK after the Commonwealth Games. Similar incidents occurred following the 2014 Glasgow Games, when several competitors stayed behind to seek asylum or pursue new opportunities.
Any asylum applications would be assessed individually under UK immigration laws.
