Emily Doran Pottery Wheel thrown contemporary tableware
Handmade in north London
www.emilydoranpottery.com I design and make wheel thrown contemporary tableware in north London.

I decided to retrain as a potter after an initial education and career in the arts. It was the desire to become the hands-on maker rather than the promoter of art that pushed me to quit my job and start again from scratch! From the beginning I was drawn to the wheel and its ability to transform a ball of clay into a world of different forms. I enjoy making pottery that retains the movement of the

wheel in its design, with tactile throwing rings and ridges. For my current collection I have used a speckled stoneware clay and copper and oatmeal glazes to create mugs, bowls and jugs for everyday use. The alluring colours and textures of coast, such as paint-flaked weathered wood, rustic architecture and the turquoise sea, have inspired the range. Britain's rich history of ceramics has also been an important influence on my work, particularly English Country Pottery's rustic terracotta wares. As an urban potter, it is enjoyable to bring an uplifting touch of the sea and countryside to my pots.
