A speedy rescue mission on a local project this week! 🚀
We cut out the blown smoothing compound, ground off the concrete laitance, hit it with a coat of P131 primer, and poured in fresh Stopgap 1200—and then feathered around the edges once it cured. After that, it was game on: the floor went back down, smooth, solid, and ready for action 💪🏼

No rest for the wicked… Saturday damp testing on one of our projects. Never underestimate the importance of doing a damp test and always always document your readings, because the last thing you want is a moisture caused failure 😱

Never under estimate the importance of subfloor prep! A very high % of flooring failures are due to incorrect, or no subfloor prep.

Anhydrite screeds like this one are notorious for leaving what’s called “concrete latency”. This is a skin that forms on top of the dried concrete, which needs to be mechanically ground off before any primer is applied. Without it, your products simply won’t stick.

Not being able to recognise certain concrete subfloor types can be a costly mistake to make, and no matter how much prime and smoothing compound you put down, you will never make it better, resulting in an unfortunate failure like this.

Subfloor prep is more than just applying a bit of primer and laying smoothing compound. It’s also about recognising what type of screed has been used as a sub-base. This will save you having to potentially spend hundreds of ££’s on remedial work being done due to failure.

Absolutely loved working on this project with the guys from down in Guildford, Surrey.

Over just a few days we fitted 100sqm of Havwoods Amerone oak herringbone flooring. The floor was fully bonded across multiple areas, completely transforming this living space, ready for the next phase of this project. Subfloor was shocking, with a mix of floorboards and concrete, which we levelled within an inch of its life! 😬… Nearly 80 bags of latex and a full ply, over underfloor heating got this floor as flat as a pancake!
