Enjoyed using my latest handwoven fabric to create this window seat. It’s lovely to be able to dot some of my work around the house in this way. I think this might become my new wee retreat when I need a little peace and quiet to myself.

Always a fan of some blue and orange so I’m very much enjoying working on this fabric. I’ve sampled the same pattern in two scales and really enjoying the slightly larger for some potential blankets.

Latest sampling for a double cloth inspired by kingfishers. Same pattern in two scales on final picture is what I’m hoping to weave over the next wee while.

I have always been drawn to the Moquette fabric synonymous with public transport upholstery, most notably found on the London Underground. Not only for its’ designs over the years, related to each line or service, but for the tactility of the fabric.

Moquette, named from the French for carpet, is a cut pile fabric, woven on jacquard loom. Not feasible on my loom but I wanted to try and weave something that might capture that desire I have to stroke the fabric and the feeling of comfort and soothing that tactility provides.

Settling on a double weave with areas of a double corduroy structure, and reference the arable countryside of Aberdeenshire and East Lothian, where my point of reference of train/bus journeys lie, I have woven a design which perhaps could, if scaled down, don the seats of my journeys.

While half will be sewn into a cushion for an upstairs window seat, I have plans to frame the other to create a piece for the wall.
