I am contacted by a lot of people who tell me they can't open one of their external doors; which is a real pain!
After getting the door open, (which I charge for, as it takes time and is a skill in itself), I sometimes diagnose the problem as the door having a completely dry gearbox and locking mechanism. No new parts are needed, they just need lubricating and they work like new. (Now, if I were a scumbag, I would tell them they need new parts...whether a new gearbox, locking mechanism, euro lock...or all three. But I'm not a scumbag, so I don't). π
The reason for telling you this, is to encourage you to have all your door and window locks lubricated / serviced at least every three years; as prevention is far cheaper than cure.
