📢 CCTV Myth Busting: “Splitters Weaken the Signal”
This is something we hear surprisingly often.

A potential customer recently told us they’d been advised not to use a network splitter because it would “weaken the signal”, especially on longer cable runs.

While that may have been true with some older analogue systems, modern IP CCTV works very differently.

The devices we use are purpose-built CCTV networking products designed specifically to allow multiple IP cameras to operate over a single cable run. They don’t simply “split” a signal in the way many people imagine. When correctly specified and installed, they provide a reliable, industry-approved solution that is used on thousands of CCTV installations worldwide.

The reality is that many people turn to Google, Facebook groups, YouTube videos, or advice from a friend who means well but doesn’t actually work in the industry. Unfortunately, this can sometimes lead to misconceptions and unnecessary concerns.

When it comes to security systems, there is often far more to consider than a quick internet search can provide:

✅ Network design
✅ Bandwidth requirements
✅ Power requirements
✅ Cable lengths
✅ Equipment compatibility
✅ Future expansion

That’s why experience matters.

After more than 20 years in the security industry, we’ve learned that every installation is different, and the best solution isn’t always the one that sounds right after a five-minute search online.

By all means ask questions—we encourage it. A good installer should always be happy to explain their recommendations. Just remember that not everything you read on the internet applies to every system.

CCTV maintenance is equally as important as the installation itself.

A system that has not been properly maintained can result in failed recordings, poor image quality, or even a complete lack of footage when it is needed most.

During our maintenance visits, we do more than simply check that the cameras are operational — we carry out a comprehensive health assessment of the entire system, including:

We were recently called in to upgrade both the intruder alarm and CCTV system for a local business after discovering the existing setup had been left in a complete mess. The alarm system was unreliable and no longer functioning correctly, while the CCTV coverage barely covered half of the yard.

For the alarm upgrade, we installed one of latest systems, complete with a new WiFi module for full remote access and instant real-time notifications straight to the customer’s phones.

On the CCTV side, we upgraded the system with a new Turbo DVR and installed two new front-facing cameras to significantly improve coverage across the site. The system was also connected to the customer’s network, allowing secure remote viewing from anywhere.

Another business now protected properly, with reliable security and complete peace of mind.

Another simple but effective install completed for an existing customer.

2 x cameras fitted to cover the full rear of the property, with one positioned either side to give complete coverage of the garden and pond area.

The system was also linked directly to the customer’s router, allowing full remote viewing and app access from their phones.

There’s nothing quite like getting a new van…

Fresh paintwork, spotless inside, smells amazing, drives beautifully… you convince yourself THIS time you’re going to keep it clean and organised.

Then the tools go in.

And within 5 minutes it looks like you’ve rolled it down a quarry 😫

I’ve been living out the back of a mobile disaster zone since December. Every job started with a 20 minute treasure hunt trying to find tools or parts I KNOW I bought… only to order more and then discover an unopened box of them hiding under a pile of cable reels three weeks later.

Absolute chaos.

But finally, the van is booked in for a full rebuild tomorrow — bigger, better and hopefully slightly less embarrassing every time I open the side door.

Spent this afternoon cleaning everything out and moving it all into the garage. The van is empty for the first time in months and honestly… I forgot the floor was even lined 😂

Another HMO project well underway 👌

This project was initially started back in December and today we completed the second fix for the CCTV.

This one’s getting a full 8 camera setup with the NVR securely housed in a lockable data cabinet within the plant room.

📍 4 external smart hybrid cameras installed with line detection configured for instant notifications.

📍 4 internal cameras covering the lobby and stairwells for added security and peace of mind.

Clean, secure and built properly from the ground up.

Next up — all network infrastructure and access points going in.

This local nursery reached out to us after growing concerns that their fire alarm system wasn’t being properly maintained.

We attended site to carry out an inspection… and what we found was shocking.

A so-called “professional” company had been servicing the system for years, yet:

* Every detector in the building was years out of date
* Multiple detectors weren’t even mounted correctly
* Several panel buttons didn’t function at all
* The panel battery was completely dead
* Call points failed on testing
* And there wasn’t a single piece of fire documentation on site

Just not good enough.

We carried out a full system upgrade — replacing all devices, installing the correct heat detectors in the kitchens (which were completely missing), and bringing everything back up to standard.

We also provided a full fire log book along with a fireproof document holder to keep everything safe and compliant.

This is exactly why regular, competent maintenance matters.
