Often overlooked for use in the garden, this Douglas Fir slatted fence makes a pleasant change from the usual Cedar or Latch that is normally used. With 9mm spacing between the slats and a membrane behind the battens, this fence does a great job hiding the neighbours fence behind. It is totally separate from the neighbour’s fence and is held up using the powder coated Duraposts - so no worries about rotten posts. All the materials were supplied by Smith Bros Timber EA Ltd., with a fantastic service as ever.

Here’s a patio replacement done recently in Oulton Broad. The existing plastic decking and balustrades were completely removed and replaced with Rustic Slate porcelain tiles and glass balustrades with steel powder coated posts. The porcelain is a little bit different from the norm and looks fantastic. All the aggregates and porcelain were supplied by P.W. Waters Ltd.

One of the last ‘bigger’ jobs of 2024. The task here was to revamp the old gravel driveway on this property. The trees were removed by Hallam tree services, then it was down to us to sort the drive. We started with new kerbs all round, dug out and laid a new drive base with a 20mm golden stone covering. Any rough looking grass areas were dug out, new topsoil laid and then reseeded. A new trellis fence was also built, separating the garden from the drive. Almost 100 tons of materials came in and out of this job. All aggregates and muckaways were supplied by P.W. Waters Ltd

Recently completed this chimney stack reduction. It was a redundant shared stack, so had to work with two parties. The stack was reduced, capped off, the flashing redressed and ventilation added. The bonus with this job was its location. Being one of the highest roads in the town, the views from the scaffolding were fantastic.

Making the most of today’s sun by putting the final coat on this new Sapele window cill. The old oak cill had to be replaced because it was so rotten and had actuall been filled previously with concrete!

Being such a large piece of hardwood was not a problem for Smith Bros Timber EA Ltd, who machined and supplied the timber.

Been a bit quiet on here lately, so here’s one of my latest projects. To remove an eight foot high Leylandii hedge and replace with a close board fence. The land has a slope to it, so each individual board was cut at 5° top and bottom to create a smooth line rather than a jagged finish. Each fence post is bolted to a concrete spur, so there’s no worry of ever having to replace rotten posts.
