Collab with my talented wee bro Jamie-Max Cartoons
Meet the Two Johns 😁
My mum has always wanted massive nutcrackers outside the house for Christmas — the proper, over-the-top, “you can see them from space” kind.
So this year, my brother John and I teamed up to finally make it happen… and we might’ve gone a bit bigger than planned. 😅
These two 8-foot Mahoosive nutcrackers are completely handmade and hand-painted — built from scratch, painted in the living room, carried out the house with pure determinatio, and now proudly standing guard outside her home on the Main Road in Elderslie, Renfrewshire.
They’re officially nicknamed “The Two Johns” — one for my brother, and the other my dad for the nutcracker who somehow ended up looking suspiciously like them in ways.
A little nutcracker history for anyone wondering why they’re so iconic:
Nutcrackers have been a Christmas tradition for centuries, especially in Germany, where they were seen as guardians of the home — symbols of protection, strength and good luck. They were believed to watch over the family, scare off bad spirits, and stand proudly as cheerful little soldiers of the holiday season. Over time, thanks to folklore, craftsmanship and of course The Nutcracker ballet, they became a classic symbol of Christmas magic around the world.
So it felt fitting to make Mum her own pair of giant guardians — customised, created with love, and built to last for many Christmases to come.
It was honestly such a fun collab to do together, and even better seeing Mum’s face when she came outside to find two giant wooden soldiers standing at her front door like they owned the place.
Big Christmas energy. Big family effort. Big nutcrackers. 🎄❤️
