MTJFC u7 Trojans vs Wingerworth Tigers
The U7 Trojans produced their best performance of the season under bright sunshine in Clowne, as they faced Wingerworth Tigers in a lunchtime kick-off. What followed was a simply outstanding display from all nine Trojans, without doubt their finest performance of the season. Teamwork, determination, skill, and, most importantly, nine smiling faces were on show in front of proud parents and coaches.
The Trojans set the tone early with a superb team goal. Isaac made a brilliant save in goal before quickly rolling the ball out to Jaxson, who switched play to Max. Max slipped a perfect pass through to Doug, who squared for Casper to finish, an excellent goal involving all five players.
The pressure continued as the Trojans created chance after chance with exciting attacking football. Tayamo and Tommy both came close before half-time. In midfield, Max was everywhere, tackling, driving forward, and setting the standard for his teammates. Doug and Seth worked tirelessly down the wings, linking play, while Tayamo’s energy up front constantly troubled the Wingerworth defence.
At the back, Jaxson and Leo were as reliable as ever, making crucial, goal-saving challenges when needed. Behind them, Isaac delivered a faultless performance in goal, with excellent handling throughout.
The Trojans remained relentless in the second half and deservedly added a second goal. Max got the goal his performance merited, smashing home from the edge of the box after great work from Casper down the right hand side.
With five minutes remaining, the game was still finely balanced, with all three outcomes possible. Then the Trojans shifted gears. Seth surged down the left to set up Tommy for a composed finish. Soon after, Doug played a long ball down the line, and Tommy beat three defenders before smashing home his second. He quickly completed a brilliant hat-trick with a fine solo effort.
At the other end, Max, now in defence, made a superb late tackle to deny Wingerworth once again.
At the final whistle, the Trojans received a standing ovation from parents and coaches. This week’s Player of the Week, sponsored by Gilkin Tree Care, was Max. His performance was outstanding, courageous, skilful, determined, and capped with a fantastic goal.
