Quick update - beginning of design process on Revit is underway after developing spatial and circulatory developments. Currently in the process of modelling a basic massing of the apartment building boundary and filling in these spaces with structural / tectonic solutions and the circulation bridges and staircase I've been experimenting with.

In partnership with Nathan Harper we also developed an animation prototyping my intentions of water management strategies outlined in my line of enquiry below (see comments section for this animation)

Line of enquiry - designing an apartment building which is complimented by amenities and services which generate a joint responsibility for the building including residents and businesses in order to thrive as one. The build should have a suitable material palette that ages gracefully in order to not look too modern for the site while also choosing materials that do not look run down when they age but rather quaint and historic. The apartment block should influence opportunity and social interactions while having opportunities to work and accommodating a range of social class statuses without any stigma attached to the aesthetics from the outside (the build should have different housing sizes and types but be of the same quality outside). The site should also have a large focus on water management and permeability due to the future flood risks to site, especially with so much concrete and hard surfaces already existing.

Blue Horizon is an innovative masterplan tackling the modern issues the urban village faces. By considering the coherence and harmony dwellings and the amenities that surround them play in the overall socio- economic narrative of site, we have responded to the queues the existing site prevailed while adapting, through analysis and research, things that would be most feasible and efficient should changes be made. The concept theoretically responds to the climate by extending outwards to mitigate sea level rise and also offers drainage pond systems surrounded by permeable materials while also reacting to the scale of massings which evolve the characteristics of wind and heat movement along with the shadowing and correspondence to the sun throughout the day. This links to the comfort and wellbeing of users within these social cohorts to have a mixture of public, semi public and completely private spaces with a coherent flow of scales which travel up site and react to the large cliff face towards the west of site. By having these parallel scales it improves the desirability and equality of site by having little aesthetic difference between the typologies of those more affordable Vs luxury. The flow of movement along the site directs away from industrial areas, which have been stationed towards the front end of site, to allow for pedestrianisation further down and thus a clear path for those on foot to follow, with key focus routes directing attention to the water edge. This accompanied by a number of amenities for leisure and social interaction creates a harmonious urban village where leisure, work and domesticity can go hand in hand.

Tapping Into History is an accessible and easy to use curation of digital panoramic views and inclusive stopmotions, outlining the true authenticity of aged British Architecture and the use journey by which these spaces have been made the most of. This project aims to show The Palace Theatre in all its glory, through the demonstration of historic spatial embodiment and narrative, that makes this specific place worth fighting for due to the hearts it captured throughout its life.

The ideals behind this project aim to enable a range of occupations to gain access to the inaccessible without safety risks. Property developers for example can experience the building both in all its glory, with large emphasis on the authenticity and beauty of original components of the building, while witnessing the current state it is in and the work required to revive such. Ideally a Historic build owner would use a similar methodology to our prototype to present and thus hopefully prevent a build ever going into such a state, due to the accessible glory a building's story may tell. The lego figures metaphorise this accessibility thanks to the parallels these figures draw to familiarity, something which decreases the daunt of the unknown.

My final design aims to directly benefit Armada Way and vise versa. It works on improving the desirability of a place, first through health and wellbeing, followed by a small business and residential revolution to fill the void of broken economy, lack of identity and the perishing wasted space, both above and along the stretch. The ideals behind it are that community and economy are directly proportional to one another, especially when it comes to supporting the build up of small businesses. Ideally people would use the urban agriculture and edible landscapes as a form of leisure while also becoming educated about where their food comes from and the labour that goes into it. Only then, by witnessing the fresh produce in person, hopefully grown by residents of the area, will people realise the importance of ethical attainment and thus supporting our local growers. This is beneficial to giving those smaller businesses a chance while redefining the stretch as a market boulevard, thriving off of community, routine, health and wellbeing. The successes of the boulevard framework should then fuel the success of other local amenities, especially my indoor outdoor market thanks to the support and simultaneous transition between users.

Sustainable technologies module just submitted alongside design module. Designing with longevity (double design) in mind while also considering shorter term strategies for changes in use. The design features a load bearing stone fecade which allows for the interior studded walls which partition thresholds to move around along with existing concrete footings where possible and removable components such as a container upon the roof garden, ash cladding and Batten screens.
