Can you spot what’s hiding in this photo?👀

Our team found this nest and eggs during a pre-work inspection some time ago. It’s a great example of why nesting-bird checks are such an important part of professional tree work.

Before starting any job, Rose Tree Surgeons Ltd checks the tree, canopy and surrounding vegetation for signs of nesting activity. If an active nest is found, we stop work in that area, keep a safe distance and monitor it without causing disturbance. The work is then postponed or adjusted until the nest is no longer in use.

Birds are most active during the spring and summer nesting season, but they can nest at other times too, which is why checks are carried out before work throughout the year.

Professional tree care means protecting the tree, the public and the wildlife living within it. 🌳🐦

🌳 Wednesday Hump Day Tree Check 🌳

We’re halfway through the week, and with this crazy weather about, it’s the perfect time to take five minutes to check the trees around your home, garden or business.

Strong winds and heavy rain can put extra pressure on trees, especially if they already have weak branches, decay, poor balance or heavy overhanging limbs.

A few things to look out for today:

🌬️ Branches hanging lower than usual
🌧️ Cracks or splits in stems and larger limbs
🍃 Fresh fallen branches around the base of the tree
🌳 Trees leaning more than they used to
🏠 Branches over roofs, sheds, cars or footpaths
🪵 Fungal growth, cavities or deadwood

If something doesn’t look right, don’t risk it. Damaged or unstable trees can be dangerous, especially in windy conditions.

At Rose Tree Surgeons ltd we provide professional tree inspections, reductions, pruning, removals, deadwood removal and storm-damage work to help keep your property safe and your trees healthy.

Halfway through the week — a quick tree check today could prevent a bigger problem tomorrow

When your business can’t stop, Rose Tree Surgeons Ltd works around it.

This weekend, our team completed a tree fell and stump grind for one of our commercial clients.

The work was carefully planned and carried out on a Saturday to help keep disruption to the site and its daily operations to a minimum. Our team safely felled the required trees, processed and cleared the waste, ground out the stumps and left the area clean, tidy and ready for use.

At Rose Tree Surgeons Ltd, we understand that commercial sites need a reliable, flexible and professional approach. Whether it’s weekend work, out-of-hours access or planning around your busiest trading times, we’ll work with your business needs to get the job done safely and efficiently.

There is a lot in the press today about the pressure VAT and business rates are putting on hospitality — and rightly so. Pubs, cafés and restaurants are vital to our towns, villages and communities.

But this issue does not stop at hospitality.

It affects businesses across the board: trades, retail, farming, care, transport, manufacturing, professional services, landscaping, arboriculture and local family-run companies like ours.

At Rose Tree Surgeons Ltd, we see first-hand how rising costs, VAT, business rates, fuel, insurance, wages, machinery, compliance and materials all stack up. Businesses are expected to keep prices fair for customers, pay staff properly, invest in safety, meet regulations, support local communities and still somehow absorb ever-increasing costs.

That is not sustainable.

Local businesses are the backbone of this country. We create jobs, train people, pay taxes, support suppliers, sponsor communities and keep money moving locally. Yet too often, the system seems to punish the very businesses that are trying to do things properly.

This is not about asking for handouts. It is about asking for fairness.

If the Government wants thriving high streets, skilled trades, strong local employers and resilient communities, then VAT and business rates need serious reform — not just for one sector, but for every sector carrying the weight of an outdated and unfair system.

Hospitality may be making the headlines today, but businesses everywhere are feeling the same pressure.

Local businesses need to be protected, valued and listened to — before more of them are forced to close their doors.

Supporting local business. Supporting local jobs. Supporting our community.

🌳 Fun Fact Friday!🌳

Did you know trees can get sunburnt? ☀️😎

It’s not just us who can suffer in the sunshine some trees, especially those with smooth, thinner bark, can be damaged by intense heat and direct sun.

And sadly, they can’t exactly slap on the factor 50! 🧴🌳

Signs of stress, damaged bark, or trees looking a little worse for wear shouldn’t be ignored. A healthy tree is a happy tree — and a safer one too.

🌳 Thursday Thoughts: Can I Trim My Neighbour’s Tree?

It is one of the most common questions we hear at Rose Tree Surgeons Ltd:

“My neighbour’s tree is overhanging my garden… can I cut it back?”

The answer is yes — but only within the law.

In the UK, you are generally allowed to cut back branches or roots from a neighbour’s tree if they cross over into your property. However, you must only cut them back to the boundary line. Cutting beyond the boundary, reshaping the tree from your neighbour’s side, or causing unnecessary damage could leave you open to a dispute or even legal action.

Here are the key things to know:
✅ You can prune overhanging branches back to your boundary
If branches are growing into your garden, you can usually cut them back to the point where they cross your property line.

❌ You must not trespass
You cannot enter your neighbour’s garden, lean ladders on their side, or access their land without permission.

❌ You must not cut beyond the boundary
Even if the tree looks unbalanced afterwards, you cannot legally cut further into the tree without the owner’s consent.

🌿 The cut branches still belong to the tree owner
Once removed, the branches, fruit or other cuttings should be offered back to your neighbour. If they do not want them, you are responsible for disposing of them properly. Do not simply throw them back over the fence.

⚠️ Always check for Tree Preservation Orders and Conservation Areas

🐦 Wildlife must be protected
Tree work should always take nesting birds and wildlife into account. Active nests are protected by law, so checks should be carried out before any work begins, especially during nesting season.

🌳 Be careful with roots
Roots can also be cut back if they cross into your property, but this is often much riskier than branch pruning. Cutting roots can affect the stability and health of the tree, so professional advice is strongly recommended.

🤝 Best practice? Speak to your neighbour first
Even where you have the legal right to prune, a friendly conversation can prevent misunderstandings and keep neighbourly relations positive.

At Rose Tree Surgeons Ltd, we always recommend getting professional advice before cutting back a neighbour’s tree. Poor pruning can damage the tree, create safety risks, and potentially lead to costly disputes.
