Furzley Phone Box

Furzley Phone Box This is the page following the restoration of the phone box at Furzley Crossroads

This is the fourth Red Phone Box in the New Forest that we have restored. It is the third of three phone boxes in Bramshaw and is located on Furzley Lane at the crossroads. The phone box is a K6 Kiosk which was common in Britain from the 1930s onwards. After usage declined, BT began dismantling the phone boxes but many Parish Councils adopted them using the Adopt a Kiosk scheme. Now that the telep

hone equipment has been removed from the phone box, we have restored the kiosk and fitted out the interior with a book exchange and an interactive map of the area. We hope that everyone enjoys following the restoration project and using the phone box in it's new use after it is restored. Please feel free to leave a comment on the page and please share the page with your friends and let them know about the phone box's new role in the community.

The shelves in the phone box have been temporarily removed for general maintenance. If you want to exchange any books, please feel free to do so at our nearby phone boxes in Bramshaw Phone Box or Fritham Phone Box. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Day 2: Today the three of us began to paint the phone box. We have applied the first coat of red paint to the inside and the outside of the phone box. We also moved the phone box back into it's correct position so it now fits onto it's plinth. If you are planning on visiting the phone box soon, please be aware that the paint is still wet.

Day 1: Today we stripped the paint and cleaned the windows. We removed the brambles from behind the box and cleaned the inside before painting the ceiling and starting to paint the door. Thank you also to the family who live next to the phone box for letting us use their power washer.
