There’s a big difference between designing a kitchen and selling a kitchen.

Selling a kitchen often starts with a range. A display. A brochure. You pick a door style, choose a colour, and build around what’s available.

Designing a kitchen starts somewhere completely different.

It starts with questions.

How do you use the space now?
What frustrates you?
Where does everyone gather?
What do you want this room to feel like?

When I design a kitchen, I’m not working backwards from a catalogue. I’m working forwards from how you live.

That means the layout is tailored to your home. The storage is designed around what you actually own. The lighting is planned properly, not added at the end. The finishes are chosen to suit the space, not just what’s trending.

It’s more detailed. More personal. And usually far more considered.

A kitchen is a big investment. It deserves more than a sales process.

If you’re thinking about renovating and want something designed around you, not just sold to you, I’d love to talk.

One question I get asked a lot is, “How do I know if we’re actually ready to start?”

A kitchen renovation is a big decision. Not just financially, but emotionally and practically too. So here are a few signs that usually tell me a client is ready.

1️⃣ You’re frustrated with the space, not just bored of it.
If it’s starting to impact how you cook, host or move around the room, that’s different from simply wanting a new look.

2️⃣ You’ve outgrown it.
Maybe your family has changed. Maybe you’re working from home more. Maybe you entertain more than you used to. When the kitchen no longer supports your lifestyle, it’s time to rethink it.

3️⃣ You have a realistic idea of budget.
You don’t need to know exact figures, but you do need to understand that a renovation is an investment. If you’re prepared for that conversation, you’re in the right headspace.

4️⃣ You’re ready to make decisions.
Designing a kitchen involves lots of choices. Layout, finishes, appliances, lighting, storage. If you’re open to guidance but willing to commit, the process will feel exciting rather than overwhelming.

5️⃣ And finally…
You’re thinking long term. Not “what’s trending”, but what will work for you for the next 10–15 years.

If you’re nodding along to most of this, you’re probably closer than you think.

And if you’re unsure, that’s completely fine too. An initial design consultation isn’t a commitment to go ahead. It’s just the first step in understanding what’s possible.

Drop me a message if you're thinking this year might be the right time for a house renovation 📩

One of my favourite parts of this Maidenhead kitchen isn’t the island or the lighting…

It’s these cupboards.

From the outside, it looks like a simple run of tall cabinetry. Clean, classic, calm. But open the doors and you’ll see where the real thinking has gone in.

Deep shelving for larger appliances.
Dedicated space for the microwave so it’s off the worktop.
Open shelves for everyday items.
Internal drawers below for the bits that would otherwise end up cluttering a worktop.

This is what I mean when I talk about designing around how you actually live.

Before I design storage, I ask my clients what they use daily, what annoys them about their current kitchen, and what always seems to be “in the way”. That’s what shapes the inside of a cupboard like this.

The oak-effect interior adds warmth and contrast against the painted doors, so when you open it, it feels considered rather than purely functional.

Good storage isn’t about cramming in more units. It’s about giving everything a home so your kitchen feels calm, even on a busy weekday morning.

If you’re planning a renovation, think about what you want hidden, what you want accessible, and what you want beautifully displayed.

That’s where the magic really happens.
