🏡 Farm Cottage Transformation – 5 Weeks of Hard Work! 🎨

Over the past five weeks, I’ve put in countless hours bringing this farm cottage up to a more modern standard. Every bedroom was completely stripped of old painted wallpaper, revealing a few unexpected surprises—huge cracks, holes, and even a hidden honeybee nest (which definitely tested my sprinting skills! 😅).

Once prepped, the walls were lined with 1200-grade lining paper for a smooth finish. In the hallway and staircase, the existing wallpaper was in great condition, so instead of stripping it, I used Zinsser Wallpaper Cover-Up to seal the pattern before applying two fresh coats of emulsion. If you’re ever considering painting over wallpaper, I’d highly recommend it!

It’s been a challenging but rewarding project, and I’m really pleased with the transformation. Now it’s all ready for carpets and a fresh start!

Stripping wallpaper is a game of chance some rooms practically peel themselves, while others fight you every inch of the way. One minute, you’re flying through a job, and the next, you’re stuck in a never-ending battle, painstakingly peeling tiny scraps off the wall like you’re plucking a particularly stubborn chicken.

Jobs like these take willpower, grit, and just the right amount of stubbornness to push through. It’s a mental game, constantly resisting the urge to throw in the towel (or, in this case, the scraper). But for that fresh, clean finish, decorators have to tackle the tough stuff first—because good prep work makes all the difference.

P.S. If you look closely in the video, you might just spot a rare sighting of a bald spot in the wild. Nature is truly fascinating!

Another weekend, another job well done!

This room was already in great shape, so prep work was minimal always a bonus. I gave all surfaces and woodwork a good sanding before tackling the gaps and cracks with some caulking (seriously, I could probably do it blindfolded at this point). The customer chose two complementary colors, swapping out the previous green for a much lighter, fresher shade. Once the paint dried, the transformation was complete—clean, crisp, and ready for the final touch.

When I first started as an apprentice decorator years ago, the tradesmen would occasionally send me to fetch something from their toolboxes. No problem, right? But every so often, I’d open a box and—boom—ladies’ tights. Not just one pair. Multiple.

Now, I’m no detective, but I had questions. Were they moonlighting as ballet dancers? Was there a secret decorator drag club I hadn’t been invited to? I wasn’t sure, so I just handed over their requested item and pretended I saw nothing.

Eventually, curiosity got the best of me, and I had to ask: “So… what’s with all the tights? Weekend hobby?” Turns out, painters use them to filter paint pouring it through the tights catches all the lumps and dried bits.

So next time you spot a pair of tights in a painter’s toolbox, don’t assume they’re prepping for a cabaret show. They’re just making sure your walls are smoother than a fresh pair of stockings!

✨Tricky Wallpapering Job Complete! ✨

Today, I tackled a challenging wallpapering job on a staircase wall definitely not the easiest with the height and angles involved! The couple had done a fantastic job with their recent paintwork and wood paneling, and their choice of wallpaper was the perfect finishing touch.

A big shoutout to John Hughes’s Painting & Decorating for stepping in at short notice to assist with the tricky heights—teamwork made all the difference!

Not as easy as it looks, but the end result speaks for itself! 👌
