A before and after of bullnosed sandstone steps, paths, lawns and shrub planting carried out in Holywood this summer outside an extension for S D Milne Contracts. Sandstone supplied by Irish Stone in Hillsborough who are well worth a visit to see their paving display if you are planning a garden renovation.

We completed this full garden referb early this year.

The client in this large County Down garden had no usable patio area due to the existing paving being in poor condition and there were several difficult to maintain areas due to exposed rock and steep banks.

We used Bracken Historic paving from Tobermore Concrete to create the raised patio and path around the house and Bracken Shannon block paving to create the curved path from the lane to the front door. As always we dealt with all drainage requirements and everything is built to last. I must call back in and get a photo with the grass and planting after a years growth.

Working with Stephen of S. D. Milne Construction we completed this raised wrap-around patio, walling, steps, bbq and outdoor fire place.

The walls are block built to patio level and the parapet is constructed of granite cobbles and a flamed granite coping from Irish Stone. Lots of stone cutting involved in this one to manufacture the shaped cobbles and coping required to create the curves.

Silver Mayfair flags from Tobermore Concrete where used to surface the patio with wiring for a hot tub and Siena Setts and tegula risers made up the steps.

We also supplied and planted mature Portuguese laurel (prunus lusitania) hedging at the front of the house, false box (Sarcococca confusa) around the patio and returfed the lawn following the extensive works.

We lifted, cleaned and relayed an area of old sandstone paving that had deteriorated over the years with the grout coming out and wobbly flags. All now installed on a sand/cement base to keep it solid and grouted with resin bound sand.

We also created an area in front of the garage for a sun bed using Bracken Tegula from Tobermore Concrete. This spot is an afternoon sun trap in the back garden and the asphalt drive undulated considerably which made it unusable so we leveled the area out while retaining vehicular access to the garage.
