CONCEPT : Sketch option for extensions at a home in South Norfolk

This is where we start. Quick sketch massing options to explore the impact of concept ideas in 3D.

🟡 What views are opened up?
🟡 What are the impacts on privacy?
🟡 How overbearing does the extension feel?
🟡 What is the connection between the garden and interior?
🟡 What is the relationship between the existing and new?
🟡 What is the relationship with the wider context?

All of these decisions can be made with a quick sketch.

PROJECT : A House in the Woods

It’s always a pleasure to visit our completed project, The Rushes in Breckland. Even on a grey drizzly day, the house looks joyful and playful with its angles darting around the trees. We are looking forward to seeing how the seasons change the relationship between the house and landscape.

PROJECT : Garden House
During the design process for this new build Neo-Georgian home in North Norfolk, we really leant into the style of the era with the representation of the visuals. Our inspiration drew from the painterly softness of Humphry Repton’s classical imagery of local landscapes such as nearby Sheringham Park.

PROCESS: New home in Broadland

Our concept design process involves sketching and modelling together. We scribble, then we test in 3D. We are not precious, we are instinctive. And often find that our best design ideas are a product of unintention.

SITE VISIT: West Norfolk

Finding the beauty in the unexpected is one of the rare skills that we as architects possess. This gloriously playful elevation with its careful vertical stacking and surprisingly joyful window / recess composition could quite easily be dismissed as a marauding lump of agricultural necessity.

I suppose some might say this is a key example of overlooked beauty…
