This year I've had some time off to focus on our plant nursery but it's been amazing to have the opportunity to go back and visit some projects from previous years. Seeing the design come together and be able to learn from the garden is invaluable, it's also what motivates me to want to create more exciting and thoughtful gardens in the future. Thanks to for the stunning photo and to you and Helen in trusting the vision and all your hard work in making it happen.

We're back to some planting jobs this month after some time away. Just finished this border in Croyde, including a lovely Prunus serrula, Arbutus unedo and Hydrangea quercifolia amongst lots of stunning herbaceous from Taw Valley Organics. A couple more shrubs to go in as well as a good load of bulbs!

We're booking projects in for this autumn as well as next spring so get in touch if you're thinking about a project in your garden.

It's been another productive and enjoyable year designing and building gardens. I've neglected my socials, which was a shame but here's a few photos to show that I haven't been completely slacking. Next year I'm taking some time off to work on our nursery Taw Valley Organics and to undertake some career development so I won't be taking on any new projects but I'm still available for consultations and will likely be booking in projects for future years so do still get in touch. Thanks to all my great clients this year and the workers that make these projects possible.

An update from an ongoing project... The original site was a barn with a significant drop into what is now the rear garden, the ground was landscaped to provide a large patio area with a sunken seating area below. The steps and seating are encompassed by naturalistic herbaceous planting amongst a shrub and tree layer including Craetagus 'Persimilis', Prunus serrula, Osmanthus burkwoodii, Cotinus 'Royal burgundy' and Cornus 'Midwinter fire'. We also installed a large pond and cascade running down from the house and were lucky enough to have good number of boulders excavated on site that we could include in these. There's still some more planting to go in around spring time and a whole sunken vegetable garden (photos to follow) to finish but we've definitely moved from building site to garden in these past weeks.

Another garden project we completed recently. We removed some outdated patio slabs and laid a self-binding gravel seating area and path. Installed lots of steel edging, a chestnut post windbreak/screen and corten steel water feature. We planted up the majority of the borders surrounding the garden with a lot of herbaceous perennials and shrubs as well as developing a gravel garden style rockery running alongside the house. A few bulbs for the spring and it's going to look fantastic next year

Just finished up this vegetable garden with a natural larch trellis and oak raised beds. Plenty of growing space for perennial herbs, veg and soft fruit and room for a few climbers. August is a great time to plant perennials to get them established ready for the following year especially with all this warm wet weather.

Had a site visit to another project we're involved with yesterday. We planted three large multistem trees in the spring and we just added some more single stems on the perimeter. The main tree in the centre is Craetagus persimilis 'Prunifolia' and the single stems are a mix of Sorbus 'Joseph Rock', 'Ember glow' and Betula utilis var. Jacquemontii, Despite the dry few months they're all looking good and the landscapers have made great progress with the steps, walls and sunken seating area. We'll hopefully be planting up the shrub and herbaceous layers later next month.

Just wrapped up this project today. Some before and after shots. There was lots of material to take out of this garden (all through the house...), and below we found some lovely cobbles. But we've added a brick patio, oak raised beds, a little pergola and some lovely plants from Taw Valley Organics. Looking forward to a few planting projects coming up next 🌱

Climbers include Clematis 'Warsaw Nike' and Rosa 'Etoile de Hollande' and trees are Sorbus 'Asplenifolia, Sambucus 'Black lace' and Prunus 'Small black' plus lots of superb plants from Taw Valley Organics. Let's hope we get some rain soon!
