Today's session didn't actually involve a single bit of physical gardening. Planning, from beginning, vegetable growing in terms of ordering seeds, figuring out how we'll set up irrigation, why different types of compost exist, where each crop will go, which will be succession sowed etc.

At the end, heartfelt thank you from client, who wanted and needed this kind of advisor session last year, and who has a clear action plan before our next session, and an excitement to start.

AI seems like a great idea to generate ideas for your garden right?

Maybe, but does it actually tell you accurately what the plants are, if they'll work in your conditions? Does it search locally to find you the best deal? Will it teach you how to maintain the plants or make more of them? Will AI be at the end of the phone when you need to ask if the plant is supposed to be looking like Alien Hands coming out of the soil right now?

Honestly, no, it won't. I can provide a totally custom planting design suited to your conditions, your ideal maintenance levels, your dislikes (Lavender for example, eh Di Binley). Get in touch if you'd like this kind of help

Start of the next project. Letting plant names just come to mind, jotting them down etc.
Next will be a fine tuning of the list to create a low maintenance, kid and dog friendly, cottage style bed.

What's a bare root? What do I do with it? Why would I buy that squid thing?

It's a more economical way of buying in perennials if you have space to grow them on and have an eye out for companies selling them off at £2 each as it's getting to the end of the season (T&M).

Pot up, wait for top growth and roots filling the pot, then hey presto, you have a new plant for about ⅕ of the cost it'll be from a garden centre.

If you want to try bare roots but aren't feeling confident with them, drop me a line and I can guide you through it

Mentoring session this week looked a bit like divide and conquer. Client pruning, with occasional tuition from me whilst I battled to find the edge between the wildflower planting and the lawn. We discussed plans for future weeks including propagation next week to generate new plants as perennials age and become leggy.
These sessions are currently weekly, but will become less frequent as the garden feels more manageable for the client.

If this sounds like the sort of gentle guidance and support you need, get in touch

Today is a busy one. Mentoring session with new clients, working on division and gap filling, then helping plan their edibles and figure out using their integrated rain water collection in the greenhouse. Then off to quote for a new planting bed, wild/cottage garden style.

Might almost stop me buying more seeds from the Chiltern Seeds catalogue for myself. Maybe
