This kitchen bay window is only a few feet from the pavement, so our customer wanted greater privacy from people passing by—without frosting the glass or losing her view outside.

We installed a dual-reflective privacy film, and the difference is fantastic. From outside, the glass now has a smart reflective appearance that makes it significantly more difficult to see into the kitchen during daylight hours, while still allowing a clear view out.

Don’t believe everything you see in a 30-second Reel… 👀

I’ve fallen down a bit of a rabbit hole recently watching DIY kitchen wrapping videos.

“Wrapped my whole kitchen for under £50.”

“It lasted for years.”

“Heatproof up to 75°C.”

One creator was even replacing the vinyl on her worktop for the fourth time this year because she’d apparently changed her mind about the colour again.

And watching them made me realise something.

This is what professional kitchen wrapping is being compared against.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with using DIY sticky-back vinyl if you want a cheap weekend project. For the right application, it can be a great way of changing the look of something without spending much money.

But it isn’t the same thing as having a kitchen professionally wrapped using architectural-grade material.

The materials I install are designed for long-term architectural applications, and just as importantly, the preparation and installation underneath them matters.

So when you see somebody on Instagram wrap an entire kitchen for £50 and wonder why a professional quote costs considerably more, you’re not necessarily comparing like-for-like.

One is a DIY decorating product and a DIY installation.

The other is intended to be a professional refurbishment.

Both have their place — just don’t believe everything a 30-second Reel tells you. 😂

I’ll probably do a proper side-by-side test at some point because I’m genuinely curious to see how the materials compare. 👀

Not every transformation needs to involve an entire room.
