A huge thank you to everyone at the East Midlands RIBA for a great evening of discussion around our vital focus on the Climate Challenge and the levity (with a serious message) brought by Studio Bark's Nick Newman.

We were very pleased to come away with these two awards for Old Four Row! Thank you!

Here's the judge's citation:
“This Small Project of the Year demonstrates how a small, listed building can be sustainably retrofitted with high-quality modern interventions, without losing any of its original character – in fact the modern intervention enhances it.”

Our project at in Devon is featured in today’s Sunday Times in an insightful article by Hugh Graham.

Thank you Chris and Carolyn for sharing your story and for your commitment to realising the vision with us.

As you brilliantly summarise “Ashridge is all about sustainability - both environmentally and economically. The former is in fashion, but with out the latter it won’t endure.”

Thanks again to all those who collaborated on the project with us.

You can read more about Ashridge on our website via the link in the bio

We are currently seeking a qualified Architect or experienced Part 2 (two years plus post-graduation) to lead on a range of private/developer-led house/housing projects and be a key team member on larger placemaking projects.

Collaboration is very important within the studio, so you will be actively involved in the design process on the projects you run, as well as being part of studio crits. We’re also focussed on creative, professional production in the working day, not a late-working culture. You must therefore be a confident, communicative designer, with job running and client-facing experience, who enjoys working with your hands: drawing and modelling.

Please visit our website to find out more and for details of how to apply (link in bio)

We are excited to announce that our project Old Four Row has been shortlisted for the Wood Awards 2022.

The is a chance to showcase the diverse, creative, and high-quality buildings and furniture being made using the world’s only truly sustainable and renewable material – wood.

At Old Four Row, the oak frame, exposed inside and out, is precision cut from a 3D model using CNC technology. The facets on the facade make the frame appear more delicate, let more light in, and create attractive shadows in oblique sunlight. It was made in close collaboration with Cowley Timber, a local firm with a national reputation for beautiful wooden structures.

Congratulations to all the other shortlisted projects, we're in great company. The projects can be viewed at the first exhibition at in a showcase partnering with @ materialmatters.design during l_d_f_official from 22-25 September. A second exhibition which will include models of the building entries will take place from late October to early December at the .

Our recent submission for a Gardener's Workroom at the Garden Museum is a red drum set at the edge of St Mary's Gardens. Its colour references local landmarks such as Lambeth Palace and icons of London Transport, as well as a Gardener's best friend - the Ladybird.

The Gardens are named after the adjacent church that houses the Museum (brilliantly extended by ) and in turn Mary (Our Lady), depicted in early paintings in a red cloak, is attributed as the origin of the name Ladybird, or Our Lady's Bird. We liked the connection.

Intended as a shared space in the round, for gathering, storage and cups of tea the building also flags visitors' arrival at the new Lambeth Green garden project, a collaboration between , TfL, Lambeth Council, designed by

Thank you to the for this fantastic and extensive building study on Old Four Row in the latest AJ Specification. Photographed in the summer by young photographer .dearden of it’s also a great showcase for his work.

Adding to a listed Sir George Gilbert Scott designed row-house, the centrepiece of Old Four Row is a ‘timber hall’, taking its form from Tudor framed bay windows. With locally based, renowned timber specialists Cowley this collaboration refined oak glulam mullions, base and top rails to chamfers and taper reminiscent of details found in the adjacent stonework. Over time the oak with weather to a silver grey. The bay is part of a wider programme of sustainable retrofit, which includes air-source heating and harnessing the thermal mass of the monolithic original construction to buffer or absorb heat as the seasons change.

Following an invited competition, we're excited to have been appointed to renovate the clubhouse at Wigmore Lawn Tennis Club . It’s an historic club with a lovely Edwardian building dating from 1911. Facilities will be improved for members, made fully accessible and updated to LTA Safeguarding guidelines. Lost features of the building will be restored, social spaces reinvigorated and giant hats will be compulsory.

As some age groups head back to school in England for the first time in ten weeks we’re reflecting on the amazing job parents across the country have done and continue to do homeschooling - probably for the first time and with no formal training.

As one friend said the other day ‘it’s totally changed how I think about my child’s education...it’s no longer a process, it’s personal’.

At Family Commune, the lessons continue in the living room ‘classroom’ today. Everyone looks very attentive! Thanks to our wonderful clients for this great
