You might have seen me out and about in my gardening van, and I'm still doing this after more than 20 years!
But I often get asked to help with other tasks, which I love!

What would help make your life a little easier?

🧹 A spring clean or decluttering
🛒 Shopping and errands
🐾 Pet care
🏠 Moving house preparation
🎭 Companion support for social or cultural events or outings
🌱 Gardening

Maybe a mix of some of the above?

One-off or regular session?

Send me a WhatsApp or give me a call for an informal, no obligation chat.

W**d of the Week- Hedge bindweed (Calystegia sepium)
Now is a really good time to winkle out the thick white bindweed roots, trying to not leave any bits behind as these will re-grow!
Left to it's own devices it will clamber over everything and spread at a terrifying pace. It does have lovely white trumpet flowers in the summer, but will set seeds and the leafy growth will smother everything.

There are a number of eco-friendly ways to deal with the roots once you've dug them up:
Put the roots in your green garden waste bin, or spread them out on a plastic bag in a sunny place or greenhouse until all desicated and dead,
Or put them in a black bin bag for 12 months until they have turned to compost,
Or put them in a bucket of water, weighed down with a heavy stone or brick. It will turn into a very smelly concentrated liquid plant feed eventually.
Do not put them on the compost heap, as they will grow again!

If you can't get all the roots out just keep pulling off any new growth as soon as it appears. Eventually any roots will run out of reserves and be unable to re-grow.

As always, wear gloves when gardening as the sap can be irritant.

Good luck!

It must be my lucky day!
In the past I've found old bottles, clay pipes, bones (!), but no Saxon hoard... yet....

Mostly I encourage a no-dig approach, but this project in a farmhouse garden, clearing a bank of nettles and ivy, needed some serious forking.

Bus man's holiday... the roses were insane! But I love this part of the garden too. Cornus, Gunnera, water lillies, blue damsel flies... delights to be found all over the show.

Phew what a scorcher! Fiery orange rose on a hot day- I do love this rose, I always look forward to seeing it come into bloom each year.

Don't forget to water your roses every 2-3 days in hot weather- water low down by the soil early in the day, avoiding splash back from the ground to help avoid black spot- check them for aphids (blast off with the hose), and feed them fortnightly with high potash feed like a tomato feed, but at half the strength used for tomatoes.

Well it had to come down. Its been getting far too hot in there during the day as the customer isn't able to adjust the ventilation when I'm not there. It's still cold at night though so I've had to weigh up which is the greater risk.

Miss P's top tips for taking down insulation and putting up shading:

1. Label all the insulation pieces with uv resistant marker pen. You think you'll remember what goes where but in 6 months time you probably won't, and labelling them will save time and your sanity!

2. Don't assume that the gaps between panels are the same. I had to label all the roller blinds too.

3. Hoover up the cobwebs and clean the glass before you put the shading back up.

4. Screw the insulation clips back in place into the frame once the insulation is down. Losing them is too easy.

5. Choose a dry, cloudy, still day with no wind so that you can dry the insulation before packing it away. If its warmish too, put plants out temporarily in the cold frame. This avoids damaging them whilst reaching across the benches.
Looking up on a bright sunny day in a hot greenhouse for extended periods isn't terribly comfortable so if you can, choose a cloudy day.

6. Use a proper step ladder. Wobbling around on a stool in a glass house is a recipe for disaster.

7. Inevitably there will be the odd spider and a few dead flies between the roof insulation and the glass. Wearing a hat is highly recommended!

It might be time to take the greenhouse bubble wrap insulation down.
