The Art of the Possible.
Planning complexity is something I spent years doing as a Commissioned Officer in the British Army.
I was regularly asked to plan things from scratch, often with little or no previous experience to draw upon.
Military training camps in California.
Radio equipment shipped through Canada, requiring diplomatic clearance.
Aircraft booked through RAF Brize Norton.
Logistical support coordinated with NATO partners.
Six-week overseas deployments.
It taught me one thing:
Complex doesn’t mean impossible.
Earlier this year, I received a call completely out of the blue:
“Hi, is this Veteran Tree Surgeons?”
“Yes, how can I help?”
“We’ve looked at your website. Would you be able to manage a number of estates across Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney?”
Before I’d even answered, I already knew.
Yes.
Not because I’m arrogant.
Because I’ve spent years learning how to break complex problems down, understand the constraints and build a plan that works.
And I’m not a “Yes Man”.
If something is unworkable, I’ll say so.
But I’ll also offer an alternative that achieves what the client actually needs.
Because at Veteran Tree Surgeons, we don’t just “cut trees”.
We manage situations.
Complex estates. Challenging logistics. Permits. Access requirements. Critical infrastructure. Multiple stakeholders.
We’re currently on our third Channel Islands estate management deployment of 2026.
When others might have looked at the remoteness and complexity and thought:
“Too difficult.”
We didn’t.
We planned it.
We solved the problems.
We made it possible.
