Sunday 21-June-2026

Got up this morning to find Kathy had gone up the plot to pick the Broard beans before breakfast as she couldn’t sleep. After breakfast I went up the plot to get some new potatoes and cauliflower / Calabrese. Had to be a short visit as we were off to see the grandchildren.

Saturday 20-June-2026

Saturday was a full morning and I wanted to get the second brassica bed fleece cover removed and changed over to Enviromesh as warmer weather is coming.
Had also noticed w**d flowers against the fleece so knew some w**ding was needed.
The fleece is great when it’s cold as it provides a warmer micro climate but by June it’s usually better to change over to Enviromesh or one of the other solutions.
If we uncover completely the pigeons feast.

Friday 19-June-2026

Short session on the plot today as it was my turn to take mum to the hairdressers and do her shopping. Got to the plot about 11:00 so was just able to catch the second half of coffee and biscuits.

Having about an hour left decided to water and feed the tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. These are one of the few plants I add a feed to other than the compost I apply. This will leave me free tomorrow on taking the fleece off the second brassica bed.

Have been getting irritated pouring into the lid as a measuring device as I keep getting it all over my hands, so got some 50ml beakers off Amazon.

Wednesday 17-June-2026

After sorting my seeds the drizzle and threatened rain eased away so I went up the plot to see if anyone was about for coffee and biscuits, after which I started hoeing as the w**ds have gone mad after 10 days of showers and us been away for five days.

Kathy also came up to pick the broad beans and peas again, I gave her a hand podding the beans when I got home and I took a picture to show the ageing stages of the beans.

Sowing in next few days.

Wednesday 17-June-2026

Time to sort out what to sow over next few days. I saw a half price sale on Thompson and Morgan seeds a week or two ago. Time to add them into my seed box then pick what I am sowing in greenhouse in modular trays.

Monday 15-June-2026

Only a brief visit to the plot today due to other commitments. The good news was the climbing french beans are coming through.
I have beefsteak tomatoes in three locations, Greenhouse, back garden, and plot so am interestingly waiting to see what ripens first.

Cauliflowers, journey from October sowings to ready in June

Thursday 11-June-2026

We have been eating cauliflowers planted out last summer and Autumn but this is the Journey from sowing cauliflower last October and planting out in February. The plants overwinter in the greenhouse or poly tunnel in the trays sown in.
The greenhouse is unheated so this is a way to get cauliflower in June, open to any one with a greenhouse or poly tunnel giving crops before sowings this year.

This is a long collection of photos but I have tried to show most stages and interactions.
